Great British Bake Off star Rahul’s very real advice to the next batch of bakers

The 2018 winner shared some sage words of wisdom to the next group of contestants.

Rahul Mandal won the hearts of so many viewers all over the world when he competed on the Great British Bake Off back in 2018.

His bakes were exquisite and his shy, sweet personality made him a fan favourite. Now, as the new bakers for Bake Off in the UK have been revealed, Rahul decided it was time to write them an open letter with some words of advice.

He said on Instagram, "Bake Off is a journey and I am sure that you all have tried your best and done amazingly well. The hardest part is over now.

"The only thing is to do now is to 'be together' and enjoy. Be united, you all got 12 new friends for life. They are now part of your extended family, and you all are part of the ‘Bake off family’! A very warm welcome to you all."

Life-changing experience

The nuclear medicine researcher also imparted some knowledge about being thrust into the celebrity spotlight:

"Now, as the names are announced, things will start to change rapidly! You will be recognised in streets, supermarkets, shops, at your work, University and everywhere: and trust me 99.99% of the time it will be overwhelmingly positive. Embrace it," he wrote.

"I know press and media can be a bit scary sometimes, but you are in the best hands. 'Love', is truly amazing, they will guide you through this journey. Whatever you do, just remember to be nice with others and stay positive."

The rise of social media

Prior to Bake Off fame, Rahul didn't even have his own social media account, but has been since using the platform to keep in touch with other contestants such as Kim-Joy, Ruby, and Terry. He's also been posting what he's been up to and experimenting with food photography of his bakes.

He said of the change, "Social media is an important part of this journey and I am sure, it will be a good experience for all of you. However with any good things there will always be some negative feedback and criticism, do take on board the positive criticism but don't let someone hiding behind their computer ruin your experience.

"Also, you will get lots of messages from people all over the world. Some of them might have different opinions in certain things, some of them will like some of you more than others. I am sure those people will realise one day that loving or liking someone doesn’t mean to hate the rest."

He signed off with some inspiring words for the newbies:

"Bake Off is the effort and hard work of a team of amazing people and it involves emotion of the whole country... But more than anything it is all about you lot: The 2019 baker’s dozen!

"You are going to live the moments you spent in the tent again. This is going be overwhelmingly happy, cheerful and emotional...all at the same time. You all are going to be in a ride you have ever been in your life. Enjoy!"

Could you be any sweeter, Rahul?
