Pop the bubbly: sparkling wine potato crisps have arrived in Australia

Sparkling wine chips are the next installment in the never-ending onslaught of booze-themed products.

Spanish company Patatas Torres has unveiled a new flavour of potato crisps – sparkling wine.

The crisps are more than just champagne flavoured too; they’ll actually pop and fizz in your mouth just like a real glass of bubbly thanks to some gentle popping candy in the recipe.

Gourmet Life – a pretty swanky Darling Point deli in Sydney that's known for its truffle and caviar - has imported just 2,000 packets to Australia. So if you're keen to sample a packet, you’ll have to be quick!

At $12.50, they’re a little steep compared to a bag of Smith’s salt and vinegar, and with 0% alcohol content it's tough to say whether they'll really pack the same punch as a glass of bubbles.

That said - following on from a host of other fanciful booze-themed things, like rose deodorant and Moet and Chandon champagne vending machines, the chips are sure to be a fun addition to summer barbeques.
