How long have you been working at Planet Cake? 2 – 3 months
What’s the best thing about your job?Lots of creativity and I find it’s always fun.
What qualities/skills/training do you think are needed to be a successful cake decorator/designer?Being patient the ability to work faster all the time. Then we can make money from the cake. Otherwise we call it “housewife side business”. Also “good eyes” are essential for a cake decorator.
What’s the most challenging cake you’ve had to make/design?A Tutankhamen cake and an Elvis stand-up cake.
What’s been the most outrageous/ridiculous request?When I had to cut each cake slice to 7mm, it was a book cake and a client wanted to see the inside after the cake was finished. That took me a couple of hours to set up. Normally I can set up within an hour for a book cake.
Any disasters?When it is a hot or rainy day, I hate it. The chocolate ganache is not going to set, icing (fondant) is not going to harden. On a hot day… its very difficult to handle it!
What’s your favourite type of cake to make/design?Wedding cake with piping work but 3D cakes are interesting to make as well.
What’s your favourite type of cake to eat?I don’t eat sweet much anymore but chou-a-la crème is always nice to eat.
