What is Oz Harvest?
Founded in 2004, OzHarvest is a perishable food rescue organisation in Australia that collects quality surplus food from commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to 600 charities providing much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle and Perth.
OzHarvest is the only food rescue organisation in Australia collecting excess food from all types of food providers, including fruit and vegetable markets, supermarkets, hotels, corporate events, wholesalers, farmers, stadiums, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms.
Their fantastic NEST program (Nutrition Education Sustenance Training) teaches people in need across Australia the tools and knowledge to nourish themselves through tips around healthy eating and food prep.
About the Yellow Army
Saving food from going to landfill and instead feeding the mouths that desperately need it is no simple task. OzHarvest relies on heavily on its volunteers, which the organization calls their Yellow Army.
