May 13 is International Hummus Day, a tribute to the dip that has been pleasing the masses since the 13th century.
Having originated in the Middle East - "hummus" literally means "chickpeas" in Arabic - this blend of chickpeas, olive oil, lemon and tahini has spread all over the world faster than you can say mezze plate.
Be it served with carrot sticks, with pita bread, slathered on a sandwich or added as a side to your Sunday roast, hummus has found its way into the hearts - and stomachs - of food lovers so much it's now got it's very own day of celebration.
And while hummus is stocked on supermarket shelves everywhere, there's nothing simpler or more satisfying than making your own at home. So we've collated some of our favourite hummus recipes - as well as some traditional accompaniments - to add to your personal collection.
