How much protein should we be getting every day? About 1g per kilo of body weight. Knowing how much protein is in food can be difficult to work out. If you can eat 2 serves of protein a day you will be eating about the correct amount. To find out what is a serving, refer to the recently updated site here.
There’s been a lot of talk about coconut oil. Is it really good for your health, and, if so, how should we incorporate it into our diets? Coconut oil is rich in saturated fat so should be consumed in moderation. Saturated fats have been given the 'bad' fat label in the past. However, new research suggests that not all saturated fats are the same and that coconut oil may be called a 'good' saturated fat. Research is still being conducted on the health benefits of coconut oil. Coconut oil can be used in cooking, you can eat the flesh of a coconut and drink coconut milk.
Can you suggest any nutritional strategies for people who feel tired and stressed? The food you consume and your lifestyle can have a direct influence on how you feel. Feeling tired and stressed has many causes. However; by eating a balanced diet, full of natural and unprocessed foods, rich in a variety of vegetables and fruits, and foods from each food group as well as drinking plenty of water, will help you to feel at your best and manage stress. Avoid foods and drinks that zap energy and contribute to stress such as alcohol, caffeine, and processed, un-natural foods.
What’s your top tip/s for overcoming the dreaded 3pm sugar slump? Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast, ensure your lunch is a balanced meal by including some protein and vegetables or salad, ensure you've drunk enough water, and that you eat regularly so you are not overly hungry at 3pm. Avoid any sugary snacks as they will cause you to crave more sugar and affect your blood sugar and energy levels. Always keep some healthy snacks at the ready such as a handful of nuts, raw vegetables or an Eat Fit Food Cleanse Bar.
