The Great Australian Bake Off: Monica's life-changing lesson

We caught up with series two baker, Monica Cavallaro, to see what she's been up to since she left the Shed.

She was one of the bubbliest contestants on The Great Australian Bake Off, and we recently asked Monica from series two to help us celebrate the new-look LifeStyle - and join us for a chat, of course!

What have you been up to since season 2 finished filming?

"I've been working on a lot of different things, most recently some other wedding TV shows, and a dessert show coming up... basically baking my backside off for my company, Moreish Cakes!

"I've also been teaching nationally and internationally, and doing baking demonstrating and presenting at shows all around Australia as well."

The one big lesson Bake Off taught Monica

"Bake Off taught me how messy I am! I knew I made a mess when baking, but I didn't realise just how bad it was until I looked across my bench at the end of each episode and saw it.

"I felt so guilty about it that I would stay behind after filming with the crew to help clean up until they kicked me out. Since then, I have a proper process and I clean down because I really learnt a valuable lesson."

The creative process

"It's really hard to come up with new things these days. Sometimes I will see an idea or a concept and think, 'that's really cute! How I can make it Monica?'"

"I also often look outside of the cake baking world - it could be architecture or pottery or other forms of art that make me wonder how I can turn my ideas into cake."

Monica recently baked an amazing cake to celebrate the rebrand of LifeStyle.

Monica's Bake Off family

"I know a couple of bakers from the new season! Wynn is a good friend of quite a few years and he is an amazing cake maker. He has a beautiful family and I can't wait to watch him on screen. I've since made friends with Dan and Annette too, they're just lovely, creative people.

"It really is a Bake Off family off screen as well. Everyone talks to each other and it makes you feel like you're a part of something bigger than your season of the show."
