Luxury London department store, Fortnum & Mason, is partnering with condiment giant, Heinz, to think outside the chocolate box for a selection of tomato sauce flavoured truffles.
Thanks to the latest unlikely Heinz partnership, lucky lovers in the UK may be treated to a romantic candle lit dinner with a side of ketchup chocolates this Valentine's Day.
The "Valen-Heinz Day" heart shaped box comes with nine hand-made truffles. three milk chocolate, three white and three dark.
The chocolates do combine the flavour of cocoa with the unmistakable taste of tomato sauce. According to Heinz "the bright and tangy tomato flavour from the ketchup bursts through the silky creamy rich ganache with a sweet finish."
"The Heinz and Fortnum & Mason relationship goes way back; they were our first UK stockist back in 1886," said Alexandra Bayet, Heinz Marketing Manager.
"Ketchup and chocolate are two of the nation’s most loved foods, and we felt that it was only right that on the international day of love we combine these two ingredients, resulting in mouth-watering truffles that are set to delight ketchup and chocolate lovers across the country."
Sophie Young, Confectionery Buyer at Fortnum & Mason, is confident in the product. She believes that the Fortnum & Mason chocolatiers have created a treat that is elevated beyond novelty.
"They have developed something truly and unexpectedly delicious, showcasing Fortnum’s ability to create unique and exciting pairings that will capture the attention of ketchup enthusiasts and satisfy even the most sophisticated of palates."
