Would you try Nigella's 'mock mash'?
Who doesn't love a good mash? It's the perfect warm comfort food that goes with nearly every meal. That said, it can be a bit of a time-intensive dish, requiring peeling, boiling and some elbow grease - if you're mashing by hand.
Luckily, British celebrity chef, Nigella Lawson, has released a new recipe that provides a more streamlined alternative to the traditional mashed spud.
Nigella took to Instagram to share a picture of what seems to be perfect, cheesy, creamy mashed potatoes. She captioned the image: "#RecipeOfTheDay is Mock Mash."
What is mock mash? The Domestic Goddess continued with an explanation: "I call it that as it’s a near-instant substitute when you feel like the comfort of mash, but lack the energy to make it.
"It’s like cheesy buttery polenta, only made with semolina, which may sound offputting, but it is divine!"
The TV chef acknowledged that people would be sceptical of the unusual swap, but reassured that the semolina mash is delicious.
"I know this sounds spooky - to those of us reared on semolina pudding at school, even those among us who have affection for the memory - but this is more wonderful than you could imagine," Nigella wrote on her website.
"It's as fast as it is easy to whip up, so I wouldn't prepare it in advance," she continued. Unlike traditional mash, the semolina only takes minutes to whip up!
Nigella's social media followers were quick to fixate on one particular element of the dish - the canned butter.
One commenter wrote: "That butter is just the most delicious thing."
"The tin of butter is my new heart’s desire," said another.
Others acknowledged that it was the perfect alternative for a quick weekday meal: "Perfect after a hectic day. Your recipes are appropriate for every occasion."
