Donna Hay's favourite kitchen utensil under $20

Donna Hay reveals the utensil that has pride of place in her kitchen.

It's rare to find an Aussie kitchen that doesn't have a Donna Hay cookbook tucked away somewhere or proudly displayed on a benchtop.

While hosting an event for Barilla's new legume pasta range, the iconic food editor and bestselling cookbook author revealed her ultimate kitchen utensil - and it's very affordable!

Making life easier

Since Donna is focusing on creating a new cookbook that's heavily plant-based focused, she needed to discover an easier way to prepare veggies. So, instead of getting out a bulky food processor or spending hours chopping, she discovered the box grater.

"What I did discover, when you're trying to convince people to eat more vegetables, is that the more veggies you add into your diet, the more prep you’re giving people to do," she explained. "So, coming up with better ways to prep veggies was quite a challenge."

Keeping it simple

Donna admits she's all for ease and simplicity when it comes to plating up nutritious food.

"I'm not a big fan of getting out the food processor when I'm trying to get homework done with two boys, so I just grate veggies with a box grater," she said. "Broccoli even has a handle already here for you, which I find genius."
