Delicious sugar, gluten and dairy-free desserts everyone will love

These sugar-free, dairy-free and gluten-free desserts will keep everyone happy!

In any circle of friends or family there's always at least one person with some sort of food intolerance or dietary requirement.

The most common restricted diets these days are gluten-free, dairy-free or sugar-free. But what does this mean for everyone else at the dinner table?

Ideally, if you're catering for people on special diets you won't want to make something different for them - this just doubles the work in the kitchen. So finding something that everyone likes is the best case scenario.

In the latest episode of The Great Australian Bake Off, the judges and contestants show us how to make some amazing "free from" dessert dishes.

First up, there's the tart competition where contestants are asked to make a buttery tart case without butter and a custard without cream. This sounds like quite the challenge, but there's one tart that's so good that Maggie and Matt can't tell the difference between that and a tart full of dairy.

Gluten-free is covered off with Maggie's tiramisu recipe (warning: you will want to have a tiramisu on hand while you’re watching this, trust me). Food porn alert!

And finally, the contestants get to try their luck with the sugar-free category by making a trifle. What was interesting about this was the way contestants used natural sugars in fruit to produce some really show stopping desserts.

None of the judges commented that the desserts weren’t sweet enough, which got me thinking about creating my own natural dessert. The original idea actually comes from a Melbourne cafe, MiIk Cow, who use hand-crafted ice-cream in their watermelon sandos (Japanese for sandwich).

My version is a dairy, gluten and sugar-free dessert, which includes a watermelon slice with a section removed and filled with a pure all fruit soft-serve, made with banana and strawberries! It's as natural as can be and a fun way to cool down!
