Christmas shoppers looking for ways to save money or get creative this festive season may want to consider making their own gifts for loved ones.
A homemade gift can be a great personal touch, showing recipients that you've put both time and effort into making them something special. Here are some great craft ideas that will impress this December.
Home-baked treats are a quick way to anyone's heart. If you're a good baker (or, at least, an eager one!) put a weekend aside, get in the kitchen and whip up all your presents in one go.
Wrap decadent cookies in cellophane and decorate with ribbon, candy canes and sprigs of holly. Bake a beautiful cake to take to Christmas lunch, craft some chocolate bark or present some homemade truffles in boxes complete with homemade gift cards.
Another great idea is to present loved ones with vintage jars full of all the dry ingredients they need to make a certain recipe. Add a card containing instructions for cooking, and let them get to work in the kitchen! You can pile the ingredients in the jar in layers, which will look especially beautiful if there are different colours and textures involved.
Even if you're not the most creative person, homemade art is a great gift option. If you're good at drawing or painting, creating a picture or mural is an obvious choice. For those not skilled with a paintbrush, consider a collage of your recipient's favourite photos.
You could even return to the lost art of pressed flowers. You may not have done this since you were a child, but it's time to take the hobby back up! Collect the brightest and most beautiful flowers you can find and press them between heavy books. Once they're pressed, arrange them on a piece of plain card. Thick, embossed cream paper works well here. Arrange the flowers into a shape such as a heart and glue them in place, before putting the card in a frame.
