Nothing says summer like cherries! You’ll start seeing them pop up in stores around November and their short season lasts until February. Always taste the fruit first, if possible, as the quality (and price) will vary.

Choose cherries that are unblemished, shiny and firm. Store in a plastic bag in the fridge for one week or at room temperature for a few days. Cherries can also be frozen to enjoy when they are not in season; simply defrost in the fridge or at room temperature.

These delicious ruby red stone fruits are also packed full of antioxidants, with recent reserach suggesting they have the ability to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and arthritis pain. They are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium and fibre!

Cherries are a tasty treat on their own, but also add a touch of luxury to fruit salads, cereal and yoghurts. Dip cherries in chocolate for a sexy after dinner treat.

Pavlovas topped with cherries and pistachios look stunning, especially as an alternative to Christmas pudding. Or whip up a rustic tart studded with cherries for the easiest dessert.

For the prettiest summer cocktail, crush cherries with a little sugar and top with Prosecco.
