Social media has been taken over by images of colourful, fluffy loaves!
It feels like a long time since iso first began, and everyone across the nation took up home-cooking with gusto. Suddenly, people discovered a love of baking banana bread and sourdough. There were too many viral recipes to keep up with.
You couldn't blink without seeing a picture of a delgona coffee or a bowl of mini cookie cereal. There were shortages of flour because people were so baking-mad.
Now, enthusiasm has levelled, and viral recipes are harder to come by. That said, when they do, they're pretty great. The latest one blowing up on TikTok and Instagram is super-simple, very beautiful four-ingredient cloud bread.
The trend began on TikTok, when user Ana, who goes by the handle @linqanaaa, shared a video of herself in mid-July, whipping egg whites, adding in sugar and cornstarch and then baking it. The result is a light, fluffy, cake-like textured bread.
Another TikTok-er, Abigail Hwang-Nable from Hong Kong, made her own version of the bread in a video that has now been viewed of 23 million times. She adds blue colouring to the mixture, making the baked-good look like a mystical fairy treat.
An Instagram foodie, soflofoodie from Florida, publish multiple spins on the basic bread, taking it to the next level. The breads included a rainbow cotton candy-flavoured version, a blue version with Oreos and even a savoury Italian version.
Although the recipe only requires three ingredients - egg whites, sugar and cornflour - it is easily customisable to look like or taste like whatever your heart desires.
