Bake Off recap: Sausage roll sensations

Gird your loins, sausage roll fanatics – it’s Patisserie Week, and we’re getting it rolling with a sausage roll Signature Challenge.

There’s a lot of love in the Shed for this bake. Australia’s biggest tomato sauce fan Mel can hardly contain herself, Dave says he fell in love with sausage rolls when he moved to Australia ten years ago, and as for Chris, well, we couldn’t agree more. 

The flavour pairings are guaranteed to jazz up your next morning tea, with everything from spinach, ricotta, and feta (Robert) to pork, zucchini, and carrot (Chris) to pork and Char Siu sauce (Dave). There’s hardly a bad sausage roll in the bunch, but it’s Dave’s bake that has Matt asking for the recipe. Luckily for Matt, it’s right here: Dave's pork char siu sausage rolls

The Technical Challenge is a Fraisier cake, which is a French recipe chock full of cream and strawberries (not to be confused with Matt's Frasier cake, his tribute to NBC's beloved Kelsey Grammer sitcom).

The Showstopper this week is one for the ages: 36 Viennoiseries AKA Viennese specialty pastries. Our bakers throw everything at it. 

And the shed is filled to the brim with pains au chocolat, croissants, Danishes, pinwheels, snails… it’s every pastry fan’s dream come true. After her sausage roll main, Mel gets dessert taken care of. Sadly, Maggie Beer’s #1 look alike, Michelle, falters slightly, and it’s her time to head home.
