From muffins to a classic chicken, leek and mushroom pie - it's all about heartwarming and delicious family meals this week on the Great Australian Bake Off.
Welcome to Family Favourites week, where everyone will be baking life-sized versions of Maggie Beer. JK, we’re starting out with 24 Signature muffins.
The combos are once again crazy delicious. We’re talking maple syrup, bacon, cheese and scrambled egg (Dave); banana, blueberry, walnut and chocolate chip (Chris); and custard and stewed plums (Claudia). But it’s Barb’s apple, carrot and raisin muffins that take the cake, with Matt threatening to stuff his vest pockets full of them.
Maggie’s Technical Challenge this week isn’t quite as easy as pie – she’s amped up the skill factor with an intricate chicken, leek and mushroom number that’s guaranteed to break some hearts.
Michelle takes top Technical honours, and Matt sums the standings up wisely like only he can: “If you’re not at the top and you’re not at the bottom, you kind of just sit there right in the middle.”
The Family Favourites Showstopper is all about the pavlova. Matt and Maggie want our bakers to make one with at least three tiers, which sets us up nicely for a dramatic pav collapse. The pav flavours range from tropical and fruity to chocolatey and rich, and our bakers adopt some interesting tactics to get them made in time.
But Dave dodges a bullet when Emma’s tasty but basic Showstopper sends her home. That’s right, it’s all pavlOVER for Emma. (Sorry).
Claudia claims the Star Baker title with a Pina Pavlova that has us desperately trying to snag an invite to her next family dinner. Get Claudia's recipe here.
