Sydney is now home to a Peanut Butter Bar specialising in ‘cleaner' dessert options that focus on indulgent wellness.
Husband and wife team Christine and Nagib Elbakht are behind the new concept offering people healthier dessert options, using a product everyone loves - peanut butter. Christine says their menu has been designed by choosing alternate, healthy dessert ingredients.
“Our motto is indulgent wellness, and with this mantra we do not compromise on taste however choose to use alternative ingredients with health benefits and powered by protein,” she says.
“All our product are gluten free - except for the 3 cheat lines we offer - and as a matter of principle we do not use any refined sugar but rather sugar alternatives such as maple syrup and honey. We bake, make & shake everything onsite, including our 18 flavours of gelato. Something we are very proud of.”
You can expect to find a range of gluten free and vegan options, including made-to-order protein pancakes, a vegan peanut butter and date protein shake and a cheat day peanut butter and chocolate lava cake.
They even have peanut butter on tap, yes you read that right, on tap!
Having always had a love for peanut butter and fitness, Christine set out to find a company to collaborate with to bring the concept to life. She found Californian company, Buff Bake and brought them on as protein partners in their first Australian collaboration.
The Peanut Butter Bar uses Buff Bake’s range of protein enhanced nut butters made from high protein, natural ingredients.
“There is no room for guilt at the Peanut Butter Bar, where everyone is celebrated for making healthier choices, without missing out on a little indulgence,” Christine says.
“Fitness has always been important to my family so I wanted to bring the two worlds together and create a permissible universe – where the fit obsessed could enjoy desserts knowing it was a better alternative to what the market was offering”, added Christine.
While the bar’s main demographic is gym junkies, dessert lovers won’t be disappointed – with Christine saying some of their most popular dishes are the classic desserts.
“I would have to say it’s the skillet high protein red velvet brownie or the skillet high protein peanut butter choc chip cookie are crowd favourites.
“Each are made to order and individually served in a piping hot skillet, topped with our exclusive high protein fior di latte gelato.”
As for the bar itself, its every gym junkies' dream decor inspired by 1976 film Rocky, floor to ceiling murals of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Muhammad Ali and a hand-made replica boxing ring.
Peanut Butter Bar is now open in Leichhardt's Norton Street. Details, peanutbutterbar.com.au.
