Are Fairy Bread chips about to go on sale for Australia Day?

When Smith’s released their new Lamington flavoured chips a few weeks ago, just in time for Australia Day, there was a huge outcry.

But that was nothing compared to the uproar over these new Smith’s Fairy Bread chips that have taken the internet by storm.

A photo of the new 'Limited Edition’ flavour was released on social media, with many loving it but many despising the very idea that the company would release such a sugar/salt monstrosity!

The Fairy Bread chips packet looked remarkably similar to the Lamington chips (which are officially on sale).

So when the hot pink Smith’s packet with an Australian flag and six triangular slices of fairy bread appeared on Reddit, along with the heading “following the success of their lamington chips… Smith’s is proud to announce their newest flavour”, people thought it was real!

The image went viral but sadly we can confirm that it is all one giant hoax.

The picture was created for Reddit by one clever user and was just a joke - it  will not hit supermarket shelves, well, unless Smith’s decide they love the idea now!

A spokesperson told Taste: “We haven’t heard anything about a new flavour. We’ve seen the Reddit post, and as far as we know there is no Fairy Bread chip coming out.”

But that still begs the question, would you try a Fairy Bread chip?
