ALDI's $40 scotch just won gold at International Awards

Aldi's budget buys prove you don't need to spend big to get top quality.

The German supermarket chain has been serving customers affordable produce since the beginning, and while ALDI have gone under the radar for some of their achievements, their latest accolade has gained global recognition.

At the recent 2019 International Wine and Spirits Awards, ALDI took home 13 trophies - one gold, six silver and six bronze, with each entry costing under $45.

And while ALDI quietly collected these awards, the real star of the show was the Glen Marnoch Single Malt Sherry Cask Scotch Whisky which went home with the gold medal - now recognised as the best in the world, and you can pick up a bottle of it for just $43.

The bottle earned an impressive score of 95 in the cask-finish single malt scotch whisky category, beating several other international entries.

While the bottle is only available in-store in NSW at the moment, the rest of Australia can pick up the Highland Earl 8YO Blended Scotch Whisky for $34, which came in at a very impressive second.

You can also stock up on the bronze winners, like the Bluegrass Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Tamova Vodka, Baroque brandy and their delicious O’Donnells Irish Cream - which is only $14, thank you very much.

And while this is all very impressive, ALDI has been quietly collecting many other awards for their liquor this year - already boasting 45 medals in just six months. So, if you haven't discovered the award-winning, and very affordable alcohol section yet, now is your chance.
