The indulgent pancake pies are going viral!
You might have heard of the internet cooking sensation that was air-fryer Caramello Koala pastries. The super-simple dessert pockets blew up on social media. Now, a trainee chef in Victoria has taken the sweet treat to the next level.
Mary-Grace Nicolazzo shared her decadent discovery on the Kmart Pie Maker Recipes, Tips and Ideas Australia Facebook Group.
Originally, she was looking to make some quick chocolate pies with brioche buns, but found that her local supermarket had sold out. The commercial cookery student was forced to improvise - and instead - she purchased a $3.50 pack of Golden Bakery pancakes.
To make the batch, she lined the base of her pie maker with one of the fluffy pancakes and then put in a filling of Caramello Koala and Cadbury Twirl chunks. Mary-Grace then topped the pies with an additional Golden Bakery pancake.
While she did not specify a cooking time, guidelines indicate that 10 minutes in the pie maker should leave the pancakes sealed and crispy on the outside, with a delicious, molten chocolate centre.
Mary-Grace wrote in her post that the creative pies are "next level". The pastries received a lot of attention in the Facebook group, gathering over 1200 likes and 600 comments.
"OMGOODNESS! I'm in," exclaimed one pie-maker-fan, while another said: "My mouth is watering!"
Many others agreed that the recipe was "dangerous," and suggested other fillings, such as "Nutella", "custard" and "apple pie filling". The pancake-pie possibilities are endless!
