Our March guest editor Maggie Beer lets us in on a few of her best-kept secrets. Her favourite food is not what you would think!
Dance the night away
Given the chance, I’d be on the dance floor all night! Did you know that the best exercise of all for both the physicality and the sheer pleasure is dancing and give me music at a party and I have to dance… at my 70th birthday a few years ago we had the big band of the Barossa playing all night, and guess who danced the most!
My favourite food is... sea urchin
My favourite food in the entire world is uni (sea urchin). People are always asking me my favourite dish or favourite food and I like to surprise or even shock them at times by saying very truthfully that fresh sea urchin would be my favourite food ever. Just recently on a few days break at Coffin Bay in South Australia with some great friends I was presented with a bucket of sea urchins collected early that morning by an oyster grower who knew of my love of them. I did share but could have easily devoured them all myself!
Music brings me just as much happiness as good food. I’m part of a choir of whom gather at my house every Wednesday; singing is such a joy and it’s the linchpin of the organisation of my week; I try every way I can not to be away on a Wednesday night. I can be exhausted from a long day and 2 hours of singing with my choir and I feel on top of the world.
I have been married to Colin for 48 years and he has been the luck of my life. We are both risk takers and married some 16 weeks after we met and have two amazing daughters and 6 grandchildren all of whom are a vital part of our life.
Chunky peanut butter and Cherry Ripes
Who doesn’t have guilty pleasures; mine is freshly made chunky peanut butter that I love so much I can’t afford to keep it in the house or I’d finish it in a day…and just occasionally a Cherry Ripe bar, a treat handed down from my mother to me; to my children and grandchildren… or is it that they just know I love them!
