5 Cocktails to Impress Your Friends this Spring

The days are longer, the weather's warmer, and it's undoubtedly time to get out the deck furniture and invite your friends over. Here are five unique, revitalising cocktails to impress your guests with this spring.

Orange Liqueur Sangria

Not only does sangria embrace the warm weather by taking advantage of all the ripe, fresh fruit, it's also a real crowd-pleaser. Sangria is fabulously easy to throw together and well-suited to large batches. This beautiful cocktail is a perfect option for entertaining on your deck this summer.

Combine a dry white wine, like sauvignon blanc, orange liqueur, fresh peaches, strawberries, raspberries and grapes. Stir the ingredients in a punch bowl, add ice and soak for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Gin Punch

Similar to sangria, gin punch is an ideal choice when entertaining. A good gin's crisp, floral juniper nature perfectly suits a warm spring day and boasts more bold flavours than the sangria.

Simply combine whatever berries are ripe and ready, raspberry and cranberry juice, gin, fresh lemon, lemonade and ice. Let all the ingredients chill in the punch bowl for an hour before serving.

The St-Germain cocktail

This pretty cocktail is so beautifully simple it's almost criminal. Just combine Brut Champagne or dry sparkling wine, St-Germain elderflower liqueur and club soda. Serve in a tall glass, over ice, and garnish with a twist of lemon.

Strawberry margarita

Fresh strawberries are one of the signatures of summer that's hard to beat. Blend them into your margarita and indulge in the natural, fruity sweetness they add. Be sure to use a high-quality tequila to avoid a fuzzy brain on Sunday morning. If you have a weakness for sweets, rim the glass with sugar. If not, stick with the traditional salt rim.

Grapefruit mojito with a twist

This refreshing twist on the classic mojito may be your new favourite summer drink. Muddle the mint, lime and sugar, as per usual. Next, add the juice of four grapefruits, white rum, Tuaca citrus liqueur and tonic water. Add ice, shake well, strain and serve over fresh ice.
