Escape To River Cottage

About the Show

About the Show

Go back to the beginning with this series, where Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s dream of escaping the city sprawl and all its stresses and downshifting into rural Dorset is finally realised when he arrives at River Cottage in his 1960s Ford Corsair convertible. His year-long experiment, living off the fat of the land, and the sweat of his brow, involves a steep learning curve… and a lot of fun! Wrestling with free-spirited piglets, waking in the dead of the night to protect his vegetable garden from a slug attack, and making cider from a windfall of apples all involve plenty of help from his friends and neighbours.

I have enjoyed every episode as they are fun, interesting and realistic. Hugh's sense of humour is infectious and I find myself laughing or commiserating with him especially when he is faced with adversity ie rabbits, rain and rats!! The town folk and their festivals are so ritualistically paced and that is something that most city people have never been part of - I love it. Thanks, Toni

I love what Hugh has done in the UK. So much that I have gone straight to his website and joined to keep up with his newsletters. You can see new shows coming out before they hit Australia. You can also buy all of his series plus heaps of books etc. Now just have to save up to see it in real life!
