A tantalising blend of cookery and comic exploits, the award-winning Two Fat Ladies present traditional cooking and hearty meals for a generation tired of faddy diets and supermarket blandness Jennifer Patterson and Clarissa Dickson-Wright tour Britain on their Triumph Thunderbird, in their quest to rediscover the delights of traditional home cooking using the freshest ingredients.
As English as roast beef, richer than suet pudding, camper than sherry trifle, with a kick like Somerset cider they are united by their enthusiasms, prejudices and their unshakeable belief in their own culinary expertise.

I saw a program once in which they made a terrine with duck breasts and pickled chestnuts (I think - it was a long time ago). The baking pan - loaf-shaped - was lined with strips of bacon and the bacon was wrapped around to cover the whole. I tried a variation using chicken breasts and a different sweet-&-sour pickle, since no chestnut pickle was to be found in my country. It came out delicious. I would love to have the original recipe. Any help would be most appreciated. Love the two fat ladies!
There was a recipe I saw the Ladies make a few years ago for a Summer Pudding made with berries. Any idea where I can get my hands on the recipe?
Neil Perry has a good Summer Pudding recipe
I just re-watched this episide! She (Jennifer) lined a baking dish with buttered spinach. She then made a bechamel sauce and added some smoked haddock and some other white fish that was poached. She folded that into the white sauce (with some anchovie ketchup). I added some capers and grated onion into my white sauce and a dash of nutmeg. Then she placed some prawns on top of the fish layer and topped with mashed potatoes. The thing about this recipe is you can alter accordin to your taste. It was superb!
From the BBC, Two Fat Ladies: Beef Stroganoff 1. Filet of Beef: Cut into narrow strips. 2. To a hot pan, add 2 oz of butter and "a drop of olive oil." i. Add chopped mushrooms and (yellow) onions; saute. ii. Add sea salt and ground black pepper. 3. "The Little Mixture:" i. 1-Teaspoon of Sugar. ii. 1-Teaspoon (heaping) Dry Mustard. iii. "A slop of port;" approximately 0.5 (125 ml) to 1 (250 ml) cup. iv. Stir to combine and then add to the mushroom and onions. 4. Saute Beef in Butter: i. Fry each strip individually; do not crowd the pan. ii. The thin strips will cook quickly; don't brown or they will turn to leather. iii. Add cooked beef to the mushroom and onion saute as you proceed. 5. Add approximately one-pint of sour cream to the mixture and serve immediately. Yummy!
Thank you so much for posting this. I saw the episode last night, picked up the ingredients based on my memory, and then realized I couldn't remember a few things like "The Little Mixture."
they had a cookbook available at time program was aired in US. can't find it anywhere now.
All you need to do is watch the programmes carefully and take note of how much of each ingredient they use- well it works for everything but the pastry & cake recipes. I was successful.
I've been looking for a recipe that was in a magazine (can't remember which one) years ago for "Noodles with Chili Beef". It was a quick, easy, one-pan Asian inspired recipe they did for this magazine article. Our family loved it but I've lost the recipe and can't find it anywhere.
