This is a great show - they don't take themselves too seriously and bring a great Australian irreverance to each episode (even Darren Simpson has acquired this trait).

Darren IS chilled & so far from competitive - do you actually listen to how he's mocked constantly? I think he's brilliant to be able to keep his cool - Ben does not stop with the criticizing. It's Ben that's competitive! It doesn't matter if you can't afford what he cooks - some people can. It's about variety and that's what he provides.
    • Joel
      Joel 8 months ago
Darren is only competitive because the others are so over powering and obnoxious lol. I would prefer Darren in my kitchen anyday. He is lovely as honey :)
  • JK100

What is Ben's issue with Darren? He DOES NOT stop criticizing him...and even Anna joins in. It's obvious you're jealous of his talents. It actually becomes uncomfortable watching it so maybe try and stop with the bagging. It's about teaching the everyday person to enjoy cooking. Well done Darren; you are an absolutely brilliant chef. Anyone in the food industry would see that.

UMMMM...Darren may be a good chef but his ego gets in the way too much. I love Annas dishes usually as they are simple and you feel that you at home can make them too. I especialy love the pork belly ina recent episode. My mouth was watering. Darrens are too over the top. I like Bens too but maybe a bit more variety from him would be nice.
Darren seems to treat Anna as beneath him too which I notice Ben treats he as an equal. Maybe thats why Ben gives darren some much stick.
I think Annas Beef Carpachio was my best and Bens Duck Curry. I also though bens ribs were awesome. I taped the episode just so I could make them. They were divine!!

I love the dynamics of this show. All 3 of them carry on as if the cameras aren't even there and the food that gets turned out is fantastic! Somehow though, I suspect Ben and Anna's ganging up on Darren is put on. I think it wouldn't be as entertaining if the banter was balanced. Darren seems confident in his cooking to take it all in stride. I do think he cooks better than the other 2 on most occassions.

I'd like to be a taster, too - and I'm sure I can still be honest about a dish without sounding like a whingeing, whiny record like the deep voiced taster on tonight's show - "it's dry, it's dry, it's overcooked". The only dish that didn't attract a similar comment received instead a dressing down for simply being mutton, supposedly therefore a "budget" meat - and he hadn't even picked up a fork! Please.

Please please get this show off the air, watching the so-called banter, which is just mysoginy in disguise, is too much to tolerate. Surely a producer or director could give each of these cooks enough separate air time to appease their obvious egos, if not get them off the air !!! This kind of "entertainment" is just painful. PS. I watch the cooking channel to be educated and sometimes entertained not watch three children disguised as adults act out.

I agree Louise and yeah you cant please anyone with Ben and Anna in the show. They turn it into a joke and I just cannot believe they actually got the job to be on a cooking show. They need to just do their job and keep quiet. My kids are more mature than those two. I might as well watch looney tunes.
Thank god its off the air cause I would prefer not to pay to watch those idiots. Minus Darren, he's just caught up in it, the poor thing because he got stuvk doing a show w/ the others. He is on a completely different level to them and it is much higher.
I think Jenny and Pete have the same type of anti social personalities like Anna and Ben so why don't you GET A LIFE JENNY and open up your narrow mind.

First saw the Aussie version last week( even if it is a re-run of a re-run). I think it compares very favourably with the old Brit version which was free to air. To have the 3 different styles of cooking presenting something for the same occassion is brilliant. You can go casual, more complex or over the top. Your choice!

I hope this will air on UK Sky. It is a show that needs to been seen in Britain and Europe being one of the very best TV food presented programes, a huge credit to Australian TV and cooking, really good food , not only Australian but world wide foods . I know that the show originated in Britain watching it regularily with Ben O ' Donoghue in it but this version has so much more to offer , presented with a very special enthusiasm. Compulsive viewing . Camera work ,sound, lighting also a credit . Looking forward to Saturday evening 15th August start of the third series . I'm an OZiepom so I'm not biased .

I can't wait to see the new series , I've been waiting for ages to see if they were going to do another series, I think Ben Darren & Anna should be guest judes on the next masterchef Australia. Hey Ben ,you should do another surfing the menu in the U.S with Stoney (Curtis Stone)

Great show there should be more of it. I think the competition between the three of them is great. Some of the judges are a bit up themselves, think they are expert foodies. I particularly liked the show with the children as judges at least their answers were honest.

I loved this show, why are they on lifestyle food now. I cannot aford to subscribe to the food channel and am very dissapointed with foxtel. They are making all the good shows unavailable to regular viewers and put reruns on all regular channels. HD is looking a better option.

Years ago, when I decided to join up with Foxtel for my entertainment, I HAD to choose, the Food Channel.----I have been a foodie for years...... My son was inspired to take a job as kitchen hand from watching Ben and Curtis.. He still works as one, to supplement his income as appr. plumber. He makes some good food to bring home to me too !!!!Thanks Ben, Anna and Darren, and really looking forward to seeing your next series....Cheers

I thoroughly enjoy watching the three of them cooking. They all have fantastic personality and are excellent at cooking. I am not a good cook but they give some good ideas for me to try. Sometimes I get carried away and have a good laugh with Anna, Ben and Darren. Darren reminds me of my nephew and I always say "HERE COMES TROUBLE" !!!.

Darren, your comments on Anna's Oriental risotto were rather unnecessary. Don't be such a killjoy. Apart from it being a great recipe, where do you think the Italians got rice and spaghetti??? Fusion cooking is quite acceptable as far as I'm aware....

The concept of this show is great as are the recipes, the female cook is so obnoxious it is impossible to watch! Does she try to be so obnoxious? If she just kept her mouth shut the show would be good. Lifestyle, please replace the chick as soon as possible or don't bother with BoA 4.

I am so glad Anna's roast won this week - I am a dairy farmer (we have Australias own breed - the Illawarra - beautiful ladies they are too.......) and we are in the process of obtaining rare breed pigs. I think it's a shame more Aussie chefs don't use produce sourced in Australia (speaking of which when is Neil Perry coming back to Lifestyle) - we grow just about everything and you don't need to waste fuel flying or shipping it here.

I agree with some of the previous comments about Darren always being picked on and criticised. I like the look of Ben's food, but I really dislike his personality. Some might argue that it's all in the name of fun, but that's what high school bullies probably say to each other, before they flush some poor kid's head down the toilet. Hang in there, Darren!

Hey Jade, Lighten up. Don't you know that everything you see on TV is not the real deal. Much of the "bantering" that goes on would be done to make the show much more interesting. I am 70 years old and love the cooking they all do. It's all delicious, as I have tried some of the dishes, and they are not afraid to tell it as it is. Just enjoy, and don't be so quick to judge.

Hey Jade, I am sorry you feel this way! Just to let you know I have been good friends with Darren for more than 13 years, working beside him in professional sense for at least 5 of those years and have been through thick and thin. I don't think that I am a bully and if you knew me personally i am sure you would feel differently. I also know that editing plays a big part in the way the show is put together and emphasis certain situations. Darren is a big boy and gives as good as he gets and if he thought that i was a bully he would be the first to give me a thump and then Anna would follow it up. I am glad that your enjoying the recipes and the show and I love Darren as much as everyone else and I'll give him a big hug when i see him next.

Hey Bender, I agree- I initially thought that they were giving a bit of flack to Darren too but if you watch last seasons shows- Darren was also 'dishing it out'. All it fun- I say!!! Maybe Ben and Ana are getting him back (in fun of course)....Love the show but the only thing is I cannot believe that the season is almost over. I would like to see less seafood recipes next season and more lamb, beef and pasta dishes.

    OMG I can’t stand Ben!
He seems to forget that his attitude is documented on film!
Does anyone recall the ridiculous statement he made about Darren using French butter?

Ben: Sure you’d use French butter, isn’t Aussie butter good enough for you?
Darren: Well I’m sure the fish sauce you’re using isn’t Australian
Ben: Yeah, but it’s not from the other side of the world

    Yeah, great argument…
Oh, and does he even work in a restaurant?

      Hi Tracey,
I remember that really dumb comment that Ben said about the French butter. Like, how dumb is he for thinking it let alone saying it? It goes to show, how narrow minded and envious people can be, because French butter is pretty damn good.
I had to turn my t.v off because he spoiled the whole show for me with his racism and slander because if it wasn't for the Europeans, then Australia would still be a country of Aborigines (who I love by the way). So Ben, since youre not Aboriginal, you really can't make dumb comments like that because Aborigines claimed this land first. You and your family came after... Australia is now a multicultural country and you should be down on your knees thanking the Europeans for giving u you a chance to live your life on this land. You need to read the history of Aust. You might open your eyes.
It is a good thing that it is off the air now.

What a great show....I so loved the thought of making Darren's winning recipe from last night (10.12.2009) ....couldn't find any info on the ABC website so googled choc mousse/bitter orange ercipe & up it came!! Just one wee criticism....some of the techniques get lost in the frenetic camera work. I'd LOVE to be on the taste test team! Jill.

The show is great - there's great chemisty and commaraderie between the chefs. One suggestion, perhaps in future seasons, could the wine that the judges are drinking with the meals be promoted. I especially wanted to know what shiraz the judges were drinking in the best lamb and best chocolate cake episode. Otherwise, keep it coming!

loved the marathon that was on yesterday, they really know how to hang it on each other in true aussie style, and the food was great will defntly try some of them..the only thing was that some of the geust judges drove mr crazy with the noise they made touching the plate just like culk on a board ..and by the could talk ..... little help on the make up would be great some of the ladies poor things will cringe when they see wot they looked like. But haveing say that i sound like them bla bla bla..it is all about the food and the 3 amigos...

Hey all, just read a lot of everyones comments, i think everyone on the show are great, they seem to have a great friendship thats why they can banter on with each other during cooking great food, its all in food fun, if they didnt get along they wouldnt continue doing a great show. I hope they will do another series as I would love Darren to win a point next time- hehehehe Ana, Darren and Ben are fantasitc and did Darren actually have to drop his pants?? as he didnt score any points even though his icecream was on every dish. Darren should do a special episode on Irish food-old fashion dishes
Look forward to the next series- if there will be one

I USED to like this show but now I can't stand it. I love DARREN and Anna but I think BEN has some problem against other nationalities. One episode I watched he was so rude about lovely Darren using ingredients from other countires and in fact quite racist. Im glad the male members of my family weren't watching because if they saw him in the street ever they would probably beat him up so nad he would have to part his hair to do a shi*.. Good work DARREN and Anna I love u guys but because that convict is on there I refuse to watch it anymore.
