Responding to a video made by Santa Fe firefighter Rey Gonzales, Curtis is in the southwest ready to help out a battalion of hungry heroes. In the video, Rey expresses his desire to cook a deserving meal for his fellow firemen and -women who put their lives on the line daily. When Curtis shows up at the department's training grounds, he surprises Rey in the middle of a fire drill. Grinning ear to ear, Rey is more than happy to meet the Take Home Chef and the two waste no time in heading off to prepare for the big surprise. Rey, a self-admitted prankster, talks Curtis into making a super spicy menu of Mexican garlic soup, carne adovada, and sopapillas that is sure to spark flames on the tongues of his coworkers! Furthermore, he devises a plan to lure the firefighters away from the station by putting in a fake call. As they prep the food, Curtis teaches Rey how to spice up the meat with the natural flavor of dried chilies. When the firefighters arrive Rey cranks up a smoke machine to add a bit of reality to the surprise. The firemen are completely taken aback when they see Rey standing next to Curtis Stone. The fire squad takes a seat as Curtis serves up a delicious three-course meal. Although they are called away by duty, all leave with filled stomachs and empty plates!
