Some of the finest seafood in the world swims around the coastline of the British Isles. This eight-part series is a romantic and magical journey through the cuisine and heritage of Britain’s shores, from the north of Scotland, through Wales and the west coast of Ireland, down to Dorset and Cornwall.
Rick reveals his personal love for the sea, demonstrating exactly what is satisfying about working at the oars of a rowing boat to bring in a springing haul of mackerel, bass and bream. But the point of this quest is to show what wonderful dishes are offered by seafood that has encircled us for centuries – often very cheap and almost always a cookery secret.
As well as a salute to seafood itself, the series is also a celebration of the people who catch it. Rick takes us on board a wide variety of boats and into plenty of kitchens around the country. Despite keeping his travels to Britain and Ireland, Rick’s recipes draw from cooking techniques from all over the world, offering lovers of seafood the chance to try their hand at new, unmatched flavours.

We had the privilege of eating at the Seafood Restaurant in Padstow this year. We had the 35 pound 3 course luncheon special. It was special. No short cuts. The fish was superb. The baked makeral I had for entre was the best entre I have ever had. It was the best coffee I have ever had and the house wine labeled Rick Stein from Australia was the best Sav Blanc I have had. All up $160 for 2 people 3 courses each and a bottle of wine. Padstow is beautiful. So he remains my favourite chef and food program and I highly recommend making the trip to Padstow.
Rick is one of my favourite chefs. In all his different shows he display passion for food. His food is simple and easy to follow.
