This exciting new reality series follows the colourful daily operations of Planet Cake, one of Australia’s most renowned and revered cake businesses, under the tight reign of owner Paris Cutler. Known to her eclectic team of designers and decorators as “The Cake Queen”, Paris is a stickler for perfection and her attention to detail leaves no fondant flower unfinished.
Each week is a race against time to design, create and deliver the most extraordinary couture masterpieces at Planet Cake. From the outrageous and the humorous to the heart-wrenching, cakes are constructed for every imaginable occasion. Bridezillas, vengeful colleagues, grieving mothers and wronged wives have all placed orders at the Planet Cake counter.
Even celebs have got a slice of the action. Nicole and Keith’s wedding cake and Celine Dion’s 40th birthday cake were ordered here. These celeb cakes have earned Planet Cake worldwide recognition with cakes now exported from Sydney to Europe, Asia and the USA.
A: Hi Paris, just wanting to know if you have...
A: Hello Paris, I have watched your show many...
A: Can I order a cake from you as I live in...
This show just came to the UK (it plays at 8am on the Food Network!). I don't understand how it is still on-air; clearly I am not the first to find Paris Cutler appalling. What a horror. How does anyone stay in that kitchen? How does her business keep thriving if this is her attitude? Terrible manager. She needs some yoga or something--and some lessons in people skills. Maybe some English lessons in words like empathy and compassion?
Ahh, looks like this might not be on-air anymore? Or even in business? Anyone know anything further to this? http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/private-sydney/cutler-bakes-a-plan-to-rescue-cake-empire-20130208-2e3lc.html
I've watched a few episodes recently and I congratulate Paris on her hard work on nurturing Planet Cake into the success it is. This is especially pertinent considering her appalling attitude, lack of communication and team leadership skills and clear inability to manage people.
I've just spent some time watching the online video's here including the behind the scenes and extra's and I think they have left out a lot of the stuff they actually should have included in the show which portrays Paris in a better light and shows her staff having some fun and not just getting brow beaten. Have a look at the 'It's Paris' Brithday' one which apparently wasn't included. It shows that Paris, even though she is still very stiff and self conscious, does have a (bit of a) human side and even a sense of humour and that her staff can actually have some fun. Obviously you can't run a business with stuff like this going on all the time but evey now and then it's really needed. Little inclusions like this one in the show would improvie it to no end. I think Paris just needs to stop being so worried about trying to be the perfect Ice Queen, relax a little and have some fun occasionally.
I have watched Planet Cake in amazement and think it’s a fantastic that these brilliant cakes are made in Australia. Unlike the other recent comments I think Paris is an amazing business woman to bring Planet Cake into the spotlight. I recently purchased a café that was in need of a revamp and although I have an accounting degree I never realised the high level of work and commitment that is required to turn around a business. Paris may seem hard on the staff (I am sure some of it is for the show) but unless you have run a business yourself, that needed to be build from the ground up it is hard to judge someone else unless you have been in their shoes. Unless you constantly watch and manage your staff the potential for costs spiralling out control is always looming. Good on you Paris for building a successful business and best wishes to you and your amazing staff.
I think "Paris" you are rude, obnoxious,I wouldn't want to be working for you and I am actually suprised those "lovely girls are still working for you. I don't see YOU putting anytime into the shop. You basically have no people skills. The girl are doing a great job and the cakes are great. Well done Girls..
Ditto to all the other comments on how awful Paris Cutler is. She would have to be one of the worst manager's of people I have ever seen, and I've seen some bad one's. I know that shows are cut together to show the 'interesting' parts and maybe they are only showing her being stroppy to make good TV but she is not interesting, she is just a bully. I feel for her poor staff. Best in the world? Give me Duff, Buddy and the DC Cupcakes girls on their worst days anytime. Would never want to buy or even win a cake from her.
Lifestyle food, for planet cake all I have to say is: no. Just, no. The staff and cakes are great, but that woman is insufferable and ruins everything. Never EVER watching that show again. Some advice from a (usually) big fan of the network: scrap this show. And just as a side note - yeah, Buddy V can be a bit loud and annoying sometimes, but at least you can tell he loves and appreciates his family and staff. Oh, and he has TALENT.
Seriously, what are you thinking Lifestyle Food. This woman is a nightmare. So rude and arrogant. We can only assume, she's a talented pastry chef. All we've seen is her strutting around, me, me, me. Complaining and abusing her staff. How the staff keep their happy smiles on, escapes me. They are amazingly talented but not one episode goes by without her whining and being completely arrogant, rude and insulting. Get rid of her. Keep the staff though, love watching them and their skills.
I wonder if Paris could make her bed without her extremely talented staff? Is she a business grad or what? The leading cake shows are owned by the most talented person in the room! Stop trying to sound well spoken if you still say "anythink". Nasty woman! A bit Like Ramsey but he leads by example and knows he's a ****. can't watch anymore sorry!
Paris u r an absolute *** to ur employees! i will never even consider buying a cake from ur shop. it makes me wonder with how u treat them how do u treat a complaining customer who isn't satisfied with an order! I definitely will not be finding out in my lifetime! I can not believe they haven't filled a hostile work environment claim against u...
Well she does treat her clients like .... Apparently they don't know who they are dealing with..
Having watched a few episodes of Planet Cakes I cannot believe owners treat there staff like that , Paris take a step back and watch an episode and remember you are only as good as the people who work for you . Remember good labour is hard to find so maybe take a deep breath before you jump on your high and mighty horse. Give me the down to earth girls from DC Cupcakes anyday
Why are all the cakes mainly made of polystyrene isn't that unhealthy?
Do they make other flavour beside the 2 Chocolate Mud cakes
I've tried to watch Planet Cake but I can't the minute it starts and I here that woman talking I turn it over, even if I am in another room.
Well, I must say I am aghast...it seems a lot of you know the whole Planet Cake story after watching a 1 x 30 minute program per week. Here's the rhetoric...how can you explain knowing so much about the life of Planet Cake and Paris Cutler the other 167.5 hours of that week? Sounds like we have some smart people out there. Let me fill you in for those other 167.5 hours...I have seen things such as former, trusted staff, involved in shafting Paris through lightweight topics such as theft and manipulation. I know some of you are great fans of some of these people...this would lead one to question your integrity perhaps? I only said "perhaps". Maybe you don't know about these past deceit and goings on...of course you weren't to know about past goings on...you people with negative remarks weren't there for the other 167.5 hours...I'll say this...I was there for the other 167.5 hours. This is Paris' partner. We live together and what I haven't heard about the things you don't know about is inside of what would be considered "normal". Paris has done things from the bottom of her heart that have been to her detriment. These things you may never know what they are...you don't need to...you only need to know that you don't know the whole story. P.S the person talking about the Dragon Boat must have missed the Opera House cake, which weighed just under 1.4 Tonnes and was 3.6 metres long. That's a lot of polystyrene, maybe enough to fill several 50m swimming pools? (I know, I created working drawings on CAD program that the nucleus of the cake was built from, and sorted out scale, weight etc).
Ok i agree we don't see the other 167.5 hours & we dont know the staff or Paris personally and we haven't seen anyone shafting Paris through lightweight topics such as theft and manipulation on the show we can only go off what is shown on the show & on the show so far Paris has treated her staff appallingly and has not worked on a single cake so we have been unable to see her skill level. The Dragon Cake was smaller then ordered as per what Paris said on the show. The Opera House cake is only shown in the shows opening credits there has not been an episode on it yet also as per your comment it is made out of polystrene and not edible cake or edible materials so it may have been enought to fill several 50m pool but could you eat it like the cakes on Cake Boss he has made a life side cow a city block and others that have taken 6 to 10 people to lift and they were made out of cake, rice crispy treats, fondant & modelling chocolate again all edible and yes he does make some cakes using polystyrene but only when the custom is going to display the cake for weeks or month as cake would go bad
I couldn't agree more with the other comments here. Paris, you are doing nothing for your business. Before I saw the show, I had done a Planet Cake course in Melbourne and the staff were so fun and happy that I thought it must be a marvelous place to work. Now I realise they were just so excited to get away from Paris. Buddy runs rings around you honey, and his cakes are EDIBLE. Not just a slab of chocolate mud cake with polystyrene on top. Your claims are misleading and deceptive (and embarrassing) and you should stop them before somebody sues your pants off.
Does paris actually make cakes?? all i see is a woman that bosses people around!
I was so excited to finally see an Australian cake decorating show. But this is cringe worthy. Please just give us the wonderfully talented cake artists and leave Paris out of it!! Totally agree with other posters on here. Paris' job description is of a 'cake designer'. Other qualified cake decorators who were losing their clients to this woman must be laughing their heads off.
I would like to know if the Dragon Boat Cake was worth 3 to 4 thousand how much must the cakes on Cake Boss cost 15 to 20 thousand they are five times bigger than anything that Planet Cake has made so far. I also like how the client for the dragon boat cake were expecting a bigger cake and when Paris noticed the mistake they didn't make it bigger they just added two goldfish to the board how lame is that, if it was me I wouldn't pay her the full amount because the cake wasn't what they ordered.
This show is awful. Such talented people working for such a rude woman. What an embarrassment in comparison to Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes. At least their cakes are made from cake and not polystyrene and cardboard. Stop with the money talk Paris. It just makes you look worse. Won't watch this rot again.
I don't watch Planet Cake because I dislike the way Paris treats her staff and her comments about her clients behind their backs - I have yet to see her actually pick up a tool and show that she is capable of doing what her staff are doing - does she actually have any creditials as a cake decorator - she just seems to treat her staff extremely bad - I would definitely rather watch Duff or the Cake Boss - the Cake Boss might be rude to his staff but he knows how to decorate a cake!!
If you had Paris, Buddy & Duff in a room together, Paris wouldn't have a clue where to start.
She's actually not a cake decorator - business women, yes (OK maybe...) cake decorator - never picked up a spatula.
That isn't what is represented on the TV show, Paris comes across as nothing more than a spoilt brat, very disorganised from a management point and totally reliant on good staff. Not sure that it is her attention to detail that is the driving force. Makes you wonder how much of the 'profits' these decoraters are getting - or is all the money spent on lady mucks shoes? and why can't she retain staff? I wonder? Still can't understand why anybody would allow themselves to be portrayed in such a bad way, unless of course they are are so damn full of their own ego that they just don't see it.
If the show just focused on the talented cake artists and took Paris out of the equation it would be great viewing, unfortunately it's not, her constant mentioning of $$$$$$ and be-littling of her amazing workers brings her across as a tyrant and not a very nice person to work for.
yes give us Planet Cake without Paris, or better still do a feature on the ex-staff of Planet Cake and whereabouts they are now.
This show just goes from bad to worse! last nights episode was just another case of bad management. What manager does not transfer the clients expectations to the staff - surely there is a guide to the size requirements, why would you just let the decoraters make a cake and then say its too small? Seriously boring TV !
After watching all the US cake decorating shows, this one doesn't hold a candle - especially when she tells you the price is $4000 - $5000 - how unrealistic is it for anyone to afford that - then when you see what a cow the owner is, there is no way I would ever use this company. Hopefully she doesn't get another season but as it is, I wont watch it anymore, she's horrid.
I completely agree. I took a course there and she seemed so nice in person but she isn't friendly at all on the show. Her perfectionist personality is not endearing in any way and she isn't doing herself any favours. I've stopped watching because she makes me nervous. The cakes are amazing but I would never want to work for her.
Lifestyle should snap up Margie Carter (the ever so talented Senior Decorater that made the orangutan and the car) She was the original owner of Planet Cake and untrue rumours persist saying Paris purchased a struggling cake business - nope Margie and her business partner had a very successful business and youonly have to see her on the show to see she is a true professional lady. She is no longer with Planet Cake but a series on her would definately be worth watching - talent, talent, talent and a charming lady as well. Dump the *** and give the job to the Classy Lady
I agree with the above comments, I thought Planet Cake would be great to watch like Ace of Cake and Cake Boss but Planet Cake is .... Paris Cutler is not enjoyable to watch, she makes me cringe and I would not like to work for her at all. I watched 1 full episode and that was enough. With Paris Cutler and her snooty attitude and they way she picks on her staff like they are beneath her, even though they are quite talented,is why I won't watch it again. She has turned me off that much that I would not buy a cake from Planet Cake.
I have never commented on a show before either and will refrain from using the "b" word, but honestly, Paris is not nice to watch. There are a lot of bosses like her as well, good at barking orders but cannot do the work themselves. When you value your staff, they generally stay loyal and work to keep the business going. If the case is true that staff are leaving and doing their own thing...I am not surprised. Happy staff do better work and stay with the company longer. I don't even think her cakes are that great to be honest and they are outrageously overpriced. Is she just a rich girl whose family bought her a business? Because I doubt she has ever had much training herself and if she has the show definitely does not portray that. This is also the first time I have felt compelled to comment on a TV show because I disliked it so much.
To be perfectly honest, I did think this show was going to be kind of good too. Sadly though, Paris is a boring stuck up *** and she is really off putting to watch on the television. Why does everyone on TV have to have an attitude or be a *** to be good at what they do? You don't have to be *** or belittle your staff to get work done, in fact it usually works against you. I would never order nor recommend Planet Cake to anyone after watching this show. Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss, although American, are much better shows.
One episode was enough for me,never again, what an arrogant up herself person Paris is. She is not in the same class as Buddy or even Duff,at least they make their cakes they don't stand there and put down the staff.I can only presume she gave herself the title of "Queen of Cakes"
Agree with many of the comments already said - was really looking forward to the show, now very disappointed. It's all about the owner 'Paris'. Odd & Jennifer, you're on the right track - Paris can't even decorate a cake. OK she's been around them for quite a while - but she hasn't done the hard yards of actually creating a cake. Lifestyle this was a really poor choice - bring on more Top Chef Just Desserts, Ultimate Cake Off, Fabulous Cakes - or even good old Buddy - all much better than this.
I love lifestyle food, eatch everyday, Never before I been driven to comment especially negatively on a show. I watched planet cakes first show and said I would never watch again. I could not believe how the staff were treated and as the Elista stated"Paris" comes across as extremely arrogant. In the other cake shows on Lifestyle the boss is hands on and supportive, helping solve problems and creating fabulous cakes. No so on Planet Cake. Sorry lifestyle but this is one time slot that you have lost me for.
Paris is painfully arrogant - I think is her talented staff making the shop successful and not her snobby attitude. She is lucky but for how long?
Thats why they all leave and open their own businesses! Good on you Margie, Handi and Linda, you deserve nothing but the best!
I was looking forward to this show as a cake decorator myself, but I think this show is detrimental to the image of the business and not sure how it got approved to be aired in hope of good PR. I wouldn't want to buy a cake from a business who has an owner that degrades junior staff's work at the end when the owner doesn't even get her hands dirty to help them meet deadlines or guide them on the right track whilst they are working on the cake to avoid a "disaster" cake that a customer will pay "thousands" for. It was refreshing to watch American cake shows after this one as the American cake shows show their cakes and people in a positive light with good sense of humour that makes a good script. Ace of cakes definitely has something cool about it as the characters have more personality and create a fun vibe and no one disses the work of each other on camera.
Couldn't agree more - very bad leadership on Paris' part - can't understand why she would allow herself to be portrayed in this light if she isn't really like this in real life - a real eye opener to many people previously blinkered by her sugary sweet coating
The only thing I'm enjoying about this show is seeing the cakes. Do not like Paris at all, she complains about her staff after giving them cake after cake they have very little time to complete. Why not hire more staff? How about supporting your staff more? Poor Emma was told by Antony her cake was fine and then Paris says no - pretty inconsistent management. They also appear to be trying to create drama between the people that I don't think really exists. Also in the first show they let a customer into the kitchen which isn't right to me, other people's cakes are being made there and yet people can wander around. Ace of Cakes is better than this, and the people on that show are weird!
The senior staff like Margie should "jump ship" and work somewhere where they are appreciated. To charge the prices she does, Paris should be willing to get her hands dirty and help the staff get the jobs finished.
Margaret you will be please to know that Margie no longer works for Paris, she works freelance and travels the country sharing her talent with cake decorators who appreciate her
Paris must be the worst boss around. She takes on extra work at the last minute, criticises all the staff and when the "special cake" needs to be delivered (Like the dolphin cake) is quite happy to deliver it to the little girl and get all the thanks. The senior staff like Margie should "jump ship" and work somewhere where they are appreciated.

You are so right. If you are running out fo time or want to do last minute cakes for "special clients' you should be prepared to help.
does paris work on the cakes or just supervise? if a cake is running out of time shouldn't it be all hands on deck
I was looking forward to this show starting but I am sorry I have just been disappointed. If Paris wanted to gain more customers through this show she isn't really doing a good job. She is so rude and comes across as up herself. About the only good thing about this show is Margie and her talents. She is one fantastic cake decorator. Her designs are amazing.

I've just found this online. Given I dont have pay tv, is there any chance we will be able to buy episodes / the series through iTunes in the future?
Buy the Cake Boss Collection or cookbooks instead Billie, trust me.
Don't waste your money Billy
Hi Billie, Not as yet unfortunately, but we'll certainly let you know if and when it becomes available . In the meantime, we hope you enjoy some of our exclusive online videos.
loved the show better then other cake show
Loved the first show. Helped me understand the price of the cakes, once you see what a perfectionist Paris is, the cakes are worth every cent!
What did everyone think of the first episode?!
I did not enjoy this show at all.
Can't wait for this show!!!!!!!
same here MarkyMark
Just love Planet Cake, have had lessons there, so welcoming and professional, just love it
