Mexican Food Made Simple

About the show

In this brand new series chef Thomasina Miers sets off to Mexico to unearth some fresh, fiery and totally fabulous recipes. Her hunt for full-on Mexican flavour leads her to local festivals, food markets, and family celebrations across the country. Who knew pork scratchings were a huge hit in Mexico? Here you can buy ones as big as the pig they came from. Thomasina finds some as big as bathmats and tests out the tiny British versions on some rather dubious moustachioed men. When she invites three armed policemen to lunch they end up thinking she is a "filthy gringa". Then, deep in the central valley of Oaxaca she tracks down a man who knows all there is to know about Mexico's sacred - and strongest - spirit; mescal. Tommi's clever twists on traditional dishes are not only simple and quick to make, they are also amazingly delicious. Back at home in her kitchen she takes us step by step through a guacamole to fire up the taste buds, and a Mexican chile with some suprising ingredients. Plus there's a raspberry sorbet laced with tequila. Salud!
