Kiwi Kitchen follows chef Richard Till as he tours New Zealand on a quest to seek out iconic New Zealand food. Travelling the length and breadth of the country, Kiwi Kitchen meets local characters who cook the food we remember so fondly, takes a look at the origin of the dishes, and finds out why it has become part of New Zealand’s cultural identity.
From muttonbird on Stewart Island, to a Central Otago high-country roast, to Bombe Alaska created by a TV chef from days gone by, Kiwi Kitchen discovers dishes that have refused to die with their decade. Chef Richard Till hosts the series and in his own kitchen recreates versions of the food we have seen.
Using his own style and flair, he modifies the classics to provide a three-course meal which caters to our contemporary lifestyles. Kiwi Kitchen is a quirky irreverent celebration of the last 150 years of kiwi cuisine.

I completely disagree! When are you coming to Europe, Richared?!!! <3 <3 <3
i think he is a dork and pretty much cooks things children could
Everyone I know who watched Kiwi Kitchen loved it. My husband hates cooking shows yet he sat through each and every Kiwi Kitchen and laughed the whole time. Come back Richard
We <3 spanish cream!!! Mince on toast is our favorite dish! Could we please be given some more mince recipes as we love it so much... we know you share our passion for it, Richard! As for the whitebate, we find your recipe totally scrumptious! We are living in the UK at the moment; Richard you need to do a tour across Europe!!! You are an inspiration to our country - all of my friends ADORE your program! Just a few tips: Please clean your plates before serving as this makes the whole look more proffessional and: NEVER EVER use powdered mash... mashing potatoes is effortless and should not be replaced by a chemically engineered processed powder! Apart from that, we think you are awesome and should be recognised as Sir Richard Till. x
I agree with DM161, my husband and I were wondering when Richard Till will be back on TV. He is a kiwi and I am an ozzie girl. We both really looked forward to your show when it was and covering all of the different parts of NZ.
My wife and I would love to see a new show with Richard Till in it. Please get him back on the telly.
Richard pleassse come back. Love your show and your sense of humour and approach to cooking is a breath of fresh air amongs all the ego loving chefs who are polluting or tv screens. They should all watch your show to get a reality check!
Richard, when are we going to get a new series of your great cooking
Hiyas, As far as I'm concerned the kitchen is for making coffee and toast, or reheating. I've actually been inspired, and after the finger food episode, I actually went and made cheese toasty rolls !!! Believe me, it was marked up on the calender!!
Just finished bacon and egg pie, from the picnic episode, well the husband made it, and he forgot to put the bacon in, but was still YUM LOL !! ~:o)>
~;o)
Can now see why Split Enz brought out the ENZ teatowel in merchandise at their reunion concerts !!
cheers Kelly
Hi Richard. I am a great fan and live in Darwin I just love your show. Love your tea towels especially the curtain of tea towels. I am a CWA lady so I really appreciate your way of cooking. Give us more shows. They are repeating them too much.

hi Richard i watch your show the other night and you were at a lawn bowls club and cooked a bacon and egg pie cholud you please email me the recipe.
Would like to know how they do there pastry as it is not your normal pastry, it has a different taste and texture and goes so well with Mutton, especially when the fatty juices comes out of the meat and into the pastry. Extra care is needed when biting into one off these pies, really, really hot. But ohh so delicious.
Love the show. Just want to check to see if you got my enquirie about how to make Mutton Pies. Best place to go, Palmerston in the South Island. Main street, near railway station

You cook so much like me, and I just love your kitchen. As time is passing me by [ I am 59[ My greatest wish is to visit N.Z. and meet you , and experience a lovely no nonsense meal cooked in your kitchen, BUT if you are ever in OZ please come to my abode, today I was watching a show of yours which had mushies, and a nread and butter pud, wow it made my mouth water, anyway I wil always live in the hope that one day I will live in the hope of meeting you and perhaps cooking for you Best of luck and good wishes Barb
What a breath of fresh air and WoW, food that the average person could cook......If you can get your head around the Kiwi accents, this guy is worth his weight in possums........ I'm hanging out for the day he actually does not like something that is made by one of his guest cooks.......!!
richard is the best his recipes are great watch out gordon ramsay
love the show. when are you comming to wa we would love to meet you.
Every single time i see your programme it alway's reminds me of home. I stay in sydney, Australia I'm telling you the bakeries here and takeaway's food here just doesn't match up with the ones back home. Keep up the cooking prog it makes cooking fun. c u next time.
Just saw him today, Saturday 30 May 2009, watching from Prestons in Sydney. Richard Till, the crew and their guests are so natural. I enjoy the fact that they include the crew in their antics. It's great to see cookery as I remember it while growing up (50 something years ago). The country hospitality at its best when we'd arrive at an Aunty's place. In the time it took to meet and greet long lost cousins and uncles, there was a large plate of scones fresh out of the oven. The Kiwi Kitchen reminds me of those good times. I must knock up a batch of those cheese scones. Until next time, many thanks.
Watchin from Aus, can't get enough of him, ha ha he cracks me up..so laid back and funny...what a sense of humour...refreshing...should be more chefs like him on tv! what a kak!..oh yeah and the food ain't bad either!
Of all the cooking shows I watch, and I watch nearly all of them, I just absolutely love Richard's Kiwi Kitchen the best of all. I can hardly wait for Sunday mornings on Lifestyle Food so I can watch it before I head off for work. I have just ordered his 2 dvds and am eagerly awaiting their arrival from NZ. Keep doing what you're doing Richard. I think you're fantastic. I must add that I am an ex kiwi now living in Aussie and seeing all that lovely scenery makes me very nostalgic.
I love this show being a kiwi living in Australia it brings me a little bit of home. It always makes me feel a little homesick and a very proud to be a kiwi. I look forward to seeing more!
we all love this show at our place....im just peeved the episodes have run out. did anyone else out there see the ***roach crawling up the wall in the boil-up show....what a hoot....and didnt he get the evils one night from one bird cooking a dessert....cant remember the dessert....but we all thought it was a crackup. richard your a very cool and entertaining chap to watch...keep up the good work!!
I love this show. Can anyone tell me where to get one of those pie tins with several shapes in one tray? Julie Sydney.
Kivvin in Sydney. Saw several recorded shows yesterday for the first time. A "must have" on DVD. Can anyone out there tell me where to get the Tee shirt he most commonly wears. In fact in the picture at the top of this page. (black one with digitalised Kiwi). Love it.
we both love this show what a funny guy
LOOVVVEEEE the show . . . soo entertaining! Does anybody have the DVD's?
Smart,Witty & Entertaining.Love watching Richard!
being a Kiwi family now living in Oz, we all really enjoy watching Kiwi Kitchen. Richard is great - even if we do have a giggle at his very homegrown accent, and we love his tea towel of the week - even my other kiwi friends young daughter does her own version of it when she's cooking. Go Richard, Go Kiwi Kitchen!
Being a kiwi in Oz I love his show watch it everyday even the repeats. Today I was watching the boilup as I also was eating my own boilup I grew up with it and my kids love it.
i just love richard
Look ,what can I say, everyone else has told his story and I can only agree, since first viewing kiwi kitchen, I love his down to earth, easy baking recipes.
BigW
Love Richard's easy go lucky style and his fabulous kiwi accent. Cooking was a duty I performed robotically, but after watching Richard its a delight. Love his show and never miss a beat. Don't stop what your doing Richard - I too would like to know if you have a cookbook out there.
Kiwi Kitchen makes me homesick everytime I see it. Totally enjoy Richard's humour, his tea towels and his guest cooks. Real down home country kiwi cooking!!! I agree with spiterma - less of the Masterchef, Great British Menu, Rosemary Shrager rubbish please!
I made his Onion & Cheese roll up savouries today. Very rich but very much a taste of home. That Onion Dip takes me straight back to my childhood everytime I make it.
The most entertaining show on LifestyleFood, by far. Funny, infomative and interesting. More of these types of shows please!!! Less rubbish ie. Masterchef, Great Brittish Menu etc
I too have become a great fan of Richard's. He's funny and very down to earth. Love his recipes. I would also like to know as where I can get a cook book of his?
A genuine person is Richard and his wonderful food ideas are terrific. He may not look at the right camera sometimes but who cares. His recipes look absolutely delish!! Does anyone know if he has cookbooks on sale ??
To tell you the truth as first I didn't like Richard. I thought his accent was put on. However, I am now converted! I sat and watched a full show this afternoon and found him irreverent, opinionated and lovely. His comments on seeing other people's kitchens and how they work shows a depth of character I thought wasn't there. I love the way he makes out that what he's doing is all thrown together on a whim! Educated guesses my foot! Years of training more like it. Loved the vegetable lasagne and will try it soon. Could you layer the lasagne with pitted black Kalamata olives too?? :) Thanks Richard!
A well informed and most eloquent ***-taker, I tip my hat to him. Quite franky I wish the so called master chef's time slot was replaced with The Kiwi Kitchen, far more engaging. Thank you.
can't get enough of Richard, makes me laugh out loud sometimes, it's also real food. It's the only cooking show my husband will watch with me.
Richard has given me inspiration for cooking Kiwi style when I'm such a long way from home. I've been collecting tea towels for years, a tradition of my Nana's and I laughed when I saw Richard showing off his collection. I love the show, keep it real, keep it Kiwi!!
L ove watching his show He cooks old fashioned food instead of boring stir fries I'm an old fashioned cook with old fashioned idea's . He cooks my type of food
Well Done Richard
He's organised chaos, he takes the simple things and creates top notch country cooking, he even makes sheep look interesting, before and after!!! Keep those tea towels Rokin, Well Done Richard.
Thanks to this great show our home has seen the revival of the trifle - just like my Mum makes!

I love watching Richard as does my man who hates cooking shows, Richard doesn't need 2 work with fancy & latest gadgets he uses what most of use- old tried utensils we've all had 4 years Good on ya mate & we LOVE your great sense of humor, I love the t towel comments. We hope you will be around for a long time Richard Merry Christmas to you & yours, love Krystyna & Mark in Sydney
i really love watching Richard on Kiwi Kitchen. Cooking is something I have always enjoyed doing.Being able to see how he has such fun in the kitchen just makes me want to get into the kitchen more. Keep up the fun Richard.
Love this show and the special guests - real Kiwis cooking real food!!! Richard is a crack up and those tea towels, OMG.
As a transplanted canadian living in au I think kiwi kitchen is the best show on the food network. As well as being funny as hell Richard is down to earth not worried about presentation as most chefs are nowadays and plus he cooks comfort food my favorite. keep up the good work Richard
I just love watching kiwi kitchen. My son also is a fan and we wouldnt miss an episode. Wonder what he will cook tonight. JW
Love it to bits! Yes, some of the food is "interesting" by todays tastes, but it's great to have someone on a cooking show who doesn't think he\she is the font of all culinary knowledge. I think Richard and Anthony would get on (albeit via an interpreter) as they both seem to have the ability to not take themseves too seriously.
i can't stop watching that show! Not for good reasons either....yes it's funny......does he know we are laughing at him & not with him? It is the most frustrating 30 mins on TV.....his food is disgusting, I actually heaved tonight at one of his dishes!!!! Yet I still watch.....I want to hurl (!!!!) the remote at him. I end up yelling at the television...........I must be a masochist. Bourdain he is not. Lets get them together....what a great show that would be. I can't understand a word Richard says, so Bourdain wouldn't have a hope!!!!!
I cook like he does, I have been a chef for over 25 years, I love robust food and I love experimenting with food, I think experimenting with food defines your style of cooking. I've had a few disasters and a few plates of brilliance too. I love Kiwi Kitchen and I think Richard is brilliant. O.M, if you don't know what you do not like about this show then your decision making cant be real good. Don't take it out on him because he does things a little different. We have tried some of his meals at dinner parties and they were a huge success. Keep up the good work Mr Till
omeltee I mean, wotched it for the 1st time, hilarious, and yummy no fuss food, cheers richard, goodone
wot a weirdo
I have cooked many of his dishes and we all love them.
Richard is the funniest person you have on the Food Network. Keep them coming, even my husband will watch this one.
Please bring Richard back. Sick of the other slick shows, they are so numerous and have become so boring. Cheers for Richard
E.Katene We live in Australia and LOVE watching Kiwi Kitchen my children record it off Foxtel. It is most refreshing and I enjoy how he goes throughout NZ, good on ya Richard
I think Richard is great in that he talks like we do, human. His recipets are great in that they are down to earth. I love to watch this show.
I have to agree. This is one of the few shows my partner and I will watch. He is cheeky, at times patronising and refreshingly unrehearsed..
