Aspirational and fun, Junior MasterChef gives children who love cooking their own chance to become a MasterChef champion.
Amateur cooks aged between nine and 12 years-old are challenged to create a two-course meal in one hour, showcasing their skills and impressing the judges with their enthusiasm and culinary potential. With the clock ticking and tension building, they must overcome their nerves to successfully rustle up their favourite menu, whether it’s a perfect roast dinner or an amazing dish they’ve created themselves.
Along the way they share their food passions with the audience and take part in masterclasses to improve their cooking prowess. Presented and judged by chef John Torode and former Celebrity MasterChef winner Nadia Sawalha, the series pitts contestants against each other through elimination heats to find the ultimate Junior MasterChef champion.
I love junior masterchef, its amazing, i'd love to be on it but i think you should either raise the age to 13 or have another masterchef for 13-17 year olds :)
Where can we get the recipes the kids have made, and John's recipes too?
My son is 12 years old and spends his whole time cooking. How do you find out where the the heats for Junior masterchef are held?He may be able to apply next year otherwise i am not sure where to go with his talents. Please can anyone help as he really does have so much knowledge and passion that its a shame not to support him with it.
I think in the age group of the first Junior M/chef in Australia, it is good that the kids get some support if needed throughout the competition, even up til the end. It was great to see the presenters giving the occasional helping hand or bit of advice. After all, they are only kids and the stress level for anyone, whatever the age, in those circumstances,l must be enormous. The level of support given seemed to me to be very even between the contestants. However, if they have a 'Teen M/chef' it should be with no help because some of the older ones could even be apprenticed by that age.
For the next Junior Master Chef I think the rules of the competition need to be overhauled to provide a level playing field for finalists (particularly) and semi finalists. I do not a believe level playing field was provided in the last competition. Surely semi finals and grand finals should be won totally on ability. However what we saw last time was family suggestions from the bleaches and corrections and leg ups by the judges when the eventual winner was heading for disasters. The eventual runner up only received a fraction of the expert assistance given to the winner and clearly did not need the same level of assistance. I believe that absolutely no help should be given to any contestants in the final series so the best Junior Master Chef would win and not the competitor who receives the most help.
I think what happens to the kids in between Junior Master Chef and Master Chef the 13 to 17 year olds who would like to have a go at doing this. They are left out with no where to go.
