Iron Chef America

About the show

Based on the format of the Japanese cult sensation, Iron Chef America carries on the legend of Kitchen Stadium and the famed “secret ingredient”. Hosted by culinary commentator Alton Brown, each week world-class chefs battle the legendary Iron Chefs of America in a culinary duel.

Chefs from all across America and even the world answer the call of duty to do battle with the Iron Chefs: Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto, Cat Cora, Michael Symon and a brand new Iron Chef. Competition is fierce and victory can go either way.

i really love the show iron chef but have noticed that the iron chef always wins, due to the fact that 1 the judges know who cooks what, 2 the judges are always from the country of the iron chef; what should happen is that 1 the judges dont see the chefs cook the dishes and 2 there should be a judge from the iron chefs country a judge from the challengers country and an independant country judge as i think a lot of the episodes i have seen are always biased towards the iron chef.

I must be missing something. I loved the Japanese Iron Chef - bit quirky. Detest the American one - I don't see that it has anything to offer and can't understand why it is on - night after night after night. But then, I must remember that I am only one voice out in the world and others have a right to watch programs they enjoy.

Frankly I find the show to be an example of crass American consumerism with a total waste of large quantities of food. Totally irresponsible given our current economic climate. Even allowing for the total unreality of the show whcih does have some entertaining moments, albeit mainly contrived and so far from reality as to be laughable, I can't get past the wastage. Get rid of it! It promotes a profligate waste of food..............................

I would love to see a battle amongst the iron chefs with a secret ingredient that they would not be familiar with like kangooroo or emu...

    March 2009

I think this show is on-the-edge-of-your-seat brilliant. Especially when they get some out there surprise ingredient like chickpeas or something that I'd find limiting. I LOVED when Bobby Flay cooked Green eggs and Ham and beat the swanky food the other guy did : )

I am having an ongoing argument with my partner regarding the opening scene. I say that all 3 Iron Chefs are there... ( Strange how on the long shot you dont see the others ..Cat ).. She says they are cardboard cutouts as the facial expressions , and stance are the same for EVERY SHOW. ! And why DONT we see Cat or her large photo when the competitor walks down the ramp.

HELP ! Save the arguments someone PLEASE !

I have yet to see a challenger win, even though I would rather eat their dishes than the Iron Chefs, but I suppose thats America for you not liking to think out of the box. Maybe a challenger will win before I get to bored with it.

The original is so good, I only hope the new one has gone too american full on..... or episodes and we will be able to tell if it worthy of the name Iron Chef.....I agree with malibu, the dubbed commentary will be missed.

I like both the original version of Iron Chef and the American offshoot. It is entertaining innovative and the competitiveness appeals to me. It also gives me some ideas to cook up something new.

The only thing I will miss is the dubbed in commentary.

    December 2008

I am really looking forward to this one. I am a big fan of the original and even though the yanks sometimes stray too far from the original when creating their own version of overseas hits they seem to have stayed true to the Iron Chef formula from what I have seen of the previews. Can't wait to see Jamie with his faithful assistant Genaro doing battle in episode 1. I will reserve judgment on my fave until I have soaked up a few episodes and digested their individual culinary styles and personalities. So glad the I have Foxtel IQ so I can record the shows as I work in the evenings and can watch as soon as I get home.

      December 2008

I got iq recently. One thing I have found is it pays to change the recording setting to go about 5 minutes over the allotted time especially on channel nine who have an infuriating habit of going over the scheduled time. There were a number of times when a show is reaching a crescendo and it finishes prematurely before you find out who won.

I'd have to say Morimoto, because I love the original Japanese version of Iron Chef :)

Were so excited to have Iron Chef on the channel and are looking forward to many culinary battles between some amazing chefs! Who's your favourite iron chef?
