What do you think?

I really love Huey's shows in Vietnam. I didn't realize what a beautiful country it is so I might make that my next holiday destination.

Huey, I am a big fan of yours and I really love your show, but I think that your back ground music is lousy.

I am really enjoying Huey's new show especially the one on the Indian Pacific. It is bit like a travel show as well as a cooking show which is nice and you see a lot of nice scenery. Some of these little country towns that he goes to are nice and I would really love to visit some of these places sometime in the future. The only thing I am disappointed in is that no one seems to be making any comments on these sites. I am very interested in other people's opinions and would like to read some soon.

Saw Huey's first show. It was good, but would have liked to have seen more cooking. It was more like a travel show, but I still enjoyed it.

I have noticed that they have taken my favourite show Judge Judy off and they have put Huey in her place. I am glad that it was Huey they put in her place as I love watching his shows and it will be interesting to see what his new show will be like and what food he will cook. I am looking forward to seeing him again.

I like a lot of Hueys ideas, but find his attitude irritating, I feel like he is talking to his daughter rather than a grown up TV audience. also he can be condecending to chefguests on his show, his arrogance lets him down but some of his ideas are simple and good.

  • Welcome back Huey

I heard that Huey is coming back on TV next month. I am so looking forward to that as I really missed him. I think that he is great and I really love the food that he makes. I think that Huey is an old icon on national TV and he would be missed if he didn't come back. I can't wait to see his new show.

I think that Huey is great. He brightens up my day when he is on TV, but I am disappointed that he is not on TV anymore. I hope he will be back soon as I really miss him. I don't know why some people can say nasty things about him. No one is perfect and if you don't like him, then don't watch him.

  • Bernadetta

What I don't understand, why do some people get onto this site and say nasty things about Huey? If you don't like him, then don't watch him as there are plenty of other shows to watch. I actually think that he is good and he makes a lot of nice things as well. Sometimes he might use a bit of fat or uses full cream milk or cream etc, but he always says that if you are watching your weight, then use low fat products.

Where is everybody? No one has made anymore comments on this site for a while. I know that Huey might of out of sight for a while, but he certainly isn't out of mind. Hopefully he will be back round June or July. As I have said before I miss seeing him on TV. I heard that he is on foxtel, but I don't have that. Pity they couldn't put him on one of those digital channels as it would be nice to see him again on TV.

  • Twilight

I too am not that keen on that new cooking show that is on in Huey's place. I will watch it if I have nothing else to do, but I won't go out of my way. I am a big fan of Huey and I can't wait for him to come back on TV again. They could of put Jamie Oliver in his place.

I have heard that Huey is having a long break and won't be back until round June/July. I am really disappointed that I have to wait until then to see his show as I think that his shows are great and I am also not too keen on the one they have in his space. If they have to put something else on, then I wished that they could have put Jamie Oliver on. I hope that Huey will have a good break.

  • Jeanetta

I have watched that new cooking show that they have in place of Huey and I have to admit, I don't like it. I am not too keen of those two chefs they have on and I think that Huey's food is a whole lot better and yes I still have all my tastebuds. All I can see is bring back Huey.

  • Archie
    January 2011

Pretty difficult to elaborate on the above except to say that the fat soaked, grey sludge that masquerades for food on his show are an absolute disgrace when compared to the many excellent dishes on offer elsewhere online or on tv. Sparky and twilight, you are either relatives of Oilcan Huey or you have both had your tastebuds removed at birth. Channel 10, please do us all a favour and remove him. Regards, Archie Klacker

No, I am not related to Huey and I haven't had my tastebuds removed either. I am just a fan of his and I think that he is good. I am also a fan of Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and James Reeson. All whom I think are very good cooks.

Huey I just watched a episode of you and a guest chef, you were rude and made your self look like a .... You gave little credit to his duck dish (which I actually enjoyed watching him make) then the next recipe you followed on with was a sausage kabab??? WTF!! Have a look at your self! I can't hack any of these cooking shows. They leave me for dead and I can't stand Masterchef, Huey, James Reeson, Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver. I really don't know how anyone can stand them. I visit my sister every Christmas and her daughter loves watching that fat chef Huey. I can't stand him so I have asked her to watch him her room while I am staying here. I know she has the Sh**ts about it, but who cares.

    November 2010

Huey's shows are great, except he wastes a lot of time with various things. His show the other day was at this meat place where the butcher was showing different cuts of meat which I thought was a waste. He could of been doing some cooking during that time. Another thing that I think is a waste is having these people come on talking about all these different vitamins. At least when that is time, gives me a chance to either make myself a cup of coffee or go to the bathroom

  • Twilight
    November 2010

Huey made a very nice dish the other day called Pasta with Rainbow chard. I would love to make it, but I am finding it hard to get the different coloured chard stems. I have tried a few different supermarkets, but so far I haven't had any success. I might try the markets to see if they may have them.

  • Jim Tate
    June 2010

Huey's TV show (ch 10/25 June 2010) has chicken wrapped in plastic cling foil. That's part of his cooking process. This is surely sending out a bad message to the public.

That “cling wrap” has plasticizer (phthalate). It is an additive to PVC used to make PVC flexible in things like electrical cables, hoses and vinyl sheet flooring. One specific plasticizer used in food packaging is Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). It is added to PVC to make soft, clingy wraps for commercial use.

Consumer research in the USA found high levels of DEHP in cheeses wrapped in deli cling wrap. Moderate levels were found in some of the shrink-wrapped cheeses and in waxed cheeses with plastic over-wrap.

The concern is that people eating several ounces of cheese wrapped in such plastic wrappers could get very high doses of DEHP. That can cause health problems. The plastic chemical can mimic reproductive hormones and become endocrine disruptors leading to health effects such as decreased sperm counts, increased birth defects in male sex organs, and an increased chance of breast cancer in women. Consumer concern about it arises from awareness that plasticizer can behave like estrogen and androgen hormones and can damage the endocrinal system of our body. Further, animal studies indicate that plasticizer may also damage the liver, kidneys, and reproductive system.

Huey should look at the evidence and not send out the wrong message to the public.

    March 2010

Mumsy, I totally agree with what you have to say. Huey does make easy dishes to make and since I started watching him I have learnt quite a bit as in the beginning I wasn't much of a cook at all. I have seen cooks like Jamie Oliver dip his finger in the food to taste it which I find to be very unhealthy. At least Huey uses a spoon when he tastes something and then he puts it aside so that he doesn't use the same one again. I don't think that Huey is that fat, I too wouldn't trust a skinny chef.

    • Twilight
      July 2010

I think that if Huey started swearing and throwing stuff around they would have to put his show on at a later time like what they have to do with Gordon Ramsay. I can't imagine Huey carrying on like that as he seems to be a very nice bloke. I too wouldn't trust a skinny cook as I know you have to taste things to make sure the flavours are well balanced.

  • Princess
    March 2010

How on earth can some of you people watch his show and enjoy it? What makes me laugh even more are the people who are saying they're learning from him. What exactly? To drop things repeatedly on the ground, bench or stove or perhaps it's learning how to succesfully wipe your plate and add as much fluff from the tea towel as possible? Are you serious? It's a joke. The only reason I watch the show with my mum is to laugh our backsides off at the 'amazing cooking adventures' of Huey. He clearly thinks he has an expertise in camera work as he's forever telling Rob the camera man to "stay there" or do this or do that. Shut up and leave him alone. You're the so called 'chef' so you do your job and let him do his. He's constantly blabbering on about pointless stuff, enjoys using he's stupid contraptions i.e the lemon squeezer, flour sifter and that damn cheese grater. I don't think there is anyone else on TV who is as annoying as him. Anyone else notice how he constantly blames others like Mr Moon for things that go wrong? Oh and like another person mentioned, stealing recipes from other chefs. Not to mention his annoying vocabulary, "Reasonably finely, purely and simply" What? His daughter Charlotte cooks way better than him. I could go on and on, but I think I may bring myself to stop now LOL

    • Mumsy
      March 2010

maybe he should start throwing stuff and swearing like other TV chefs, all his food is easy to make and ingredients are easy enough to get hold of. he has fun cooking and tells interesting stories instead of prattling on about how good he is and how hes helping the poor unfortunates with his generous cooking shows and pumping up his own ego and popularity like other TV chefs. His vocabulary is easy going like his cooking, no rushing around using exotic ingredients and long fancy terminology. Compared to Ramsey and Oliver hes a breath of fresh air, he cooks things people actually want to try to cook for their families. Oh and about his weight, well... never trust a skinny chef,

Isn't it funny how a person can judge another person on this site, just by reading their comments. They don't know who they are, whether they are male or female, young or old. It is also sad that some people choose to use vulgar language on their comments. This is Huey's site and whether you like him or not, this is a site where people make their comments ***ut him or his show. Maybe people should just chill out for a while and just enjoy watching his shows and look forward to the new season which should start soon.

I like it when Huey brings some of his friends onto his show. I like Emma, I think that she is good and my young niece likes her as well. I also like that bloke (can't remember his name) who does the Indian cooking. I think that he is good as well, but sometimes I feel he isn't very confident being on TV. Why are you all stressing about Hueys recipes. They aren't worth getting anyway. If you want good recipes get them from James Reeson,( alive and cooking ) his are free, and oh so good. He is a chef. Are you a chef Huey?? I have worked with dozens of chefs and fine it hard to believe he is one. A cook maybe, but then so is Janelle Bloom, and she is good!! Pay for his recipes??, you must be joking.

    September 2009

I have to admit, Huey does say a lot of silly things at times and even he admits it. He says, "did I say that? How silly of me." I don't know why he says these things in the first place as he is only making a fool of himself on National TV and at times, I am abusing the TV for what he says. I think that he should also stop charging for his recipes as most sites give them away for nothing. I don't think that Huey is that short of money that he needs to charge for his recipes.

  • t pollard

pay for these recipes rubbish huey never created any of them, the sloppiest cook i have ever seen has plaugerised these recipes and stands in front of us half drunk telling us to visit the web site. dont bother the same recipes are available on the web just look

      February 2010

I think that you are right. I think that Huey is trying to bring a bit of comedy into his shows and people misunderstand that and think that he is silly. I get a laugh out of his shows at times and I have also made some of his dishes. I don't think that I could do what he does and stand in front of a camera trying to think of what to say. I think he does great job. I noticed that his shows are still repeats, but I still like to watch them and I hope his new season starts soon. I would also like to see Huey make San Chow Bow on one of his shows as I would like to see what ingredients he would use.

I don't think that this should be a site where people have slinging matches against each other or pick on Huey for the way he dresses or the way he speaks. He certainly doesn't come onto his show half drunk as I don't think that he drinks. I know he might say a few silly things at times, but maybe he is either trying to bring a bit of comedy into his shows or he might be a bit nervous. Even though he was been on TV for year, he still might feel nervous have to stand in front of a camera every day trying to think of what to say, knowing that there are people all round the country watching his show and hanging on to what ever he says.

To michelle, fredy & all those other people who have written horrible comments about Huey, I don't understand people like you, if you have so much against this person, why waste your time getting onto this website & making such a negative comment against someone you don't know from a bar of soap. Like so many do-gooders, who want to get their two bobs worth in, why don't you just not watch and let those who like to watch, do so in peace.

I agree too. If you don't like Huey, then don't watch him. I don't know what people have against him as he hasn't done any harm and he is a very nice bloke. I enjoy his shows and I like the things that he makes. I am a very big fan of Huey and I am hoping that he will come back on TV soon although I like watching Justine as well. I bet the main reason why q23hajdfh9213 hasn't made any more comments on this site because he or she probably embarrassed by what he or she has said and knows that they are in the wrong. Also I noticed that he/she is not the only person to comment on how it is lousy of Huey to charge for his recipes where you can get them free off the internet. I am just interested why this person in particular. Also did you know that Huey has another site? If you go there, you will read some comments that people have made which would make your hair curl. I think Huey is a fantastic chief, and for all you food critics that babble about the tinest of details such as which language expressons he uses is absolutely ludacris. Put any person in Huey's place and im sure they will make a mess of it. Huey is an Australian icon lets not put him down

  • Very Concerned
    August 2009

I am unimpressed in Huey's cooking!! Much, much, too much fat used in most of Huey's recipes on his T.V. shows!!! The recipes he prepares are generally use too much fat, overall. And the cream?????? Is cream really a necessary ingredient? What about lite evaporated milk instead? I can cook the same dishes with less than half the fat Huey uses and keep the taste. Doing this is not rocket science-it's caring about the health of your audience. I certainly hope he lifts his game.

In this day and age, why is he deep frying food? We all know that if the temperature of the oil is correct the food itself avoids absorbing the oil. However, I'll bet most people are unaware of this simple fact. Too much fat also hinders clear thinking.

I especialy like his 'splash' of olive oil---it turns out to be 3-4 tablespoons more than neededperplexing The recipes that I especiallly find questionable and thoughtless are those that combine fat, either solid or liquid, full cream and cheese. That's a lot of extra fat!!! The fact that olive oil is unsaturated fat doesn't mean it's free of fat calories. Too much fat is unnecessary. The same taste can be realized with half the amount he uses.

His 'On Ai'r conversational patter is careless and thoughtless as to of the consequences to the largely (food) uneducated audience. The "She'll be right" attitude I especially find inspiring.

twilight i would like to agree with you when you say that this page isn't a place for a slinging match over the internet and therefore i would like to sincerely apologize for any offense i may have caused. It is purely fact that due to the overwhelming amount of people on the net, individual opinion is often disregarded and heavily criticized. Sad but true that people find it easier to refuse the thoughts of others when they are just a name on a screen and a few lines of text. I was just a bit confused by SB254's comments as a lot conflict heavily with each other, however i was in the wrong whereas i expressed my own opinion of his/her remarks. In hindsight it was probably best to keep my thoughts to myself, but please remember that my comments were left for SB254 and not you. NO YOU DONT. with all the reciepes & chefs in the world, i am sure you have nothing better to do than complain about one person. everybody in the world( including chefs ) borrow, change, and swap reciepies and we have all done it. cooking is universal language, lets enjoy it and not disrupt the world because a person wipes his plate and his hands with the same tea towel, i bet every person is not hygenic a home but because the man has done on tv, you straight away jump down his throat. all reciepe books cost money. it takes a lot of work to compile a reciepe to put in a book & more to write the book. if you dont want to pay, then go somewhere else. huey is only doing what he loves, COOKING. thats somthing a lot of people dont understand & if he makes a buck, well done.

When they make a cup of tea or coffee, and if the spill something, they don't bother to wipe it up, they leave that for me and they also leave their dirty spoon in the sink instead of putting it in the dishwasher. They also leave their dirty cups, plates etc in the sink and I have to be the one to put them in the dishwasher. They started to leave their dirty lunch containers in the sink as well, but I soon put a stop to that. Huey is certainly a lousy bugger. Yesterday he made a very nice chocolate cake and I went to his site to see if I could get the recipe and was told that I would have to pay for it. He can stick it as far as I am concerned. I will just go to the internet and find one similar and got it for free.

it annoys me that Huey handles raw meat fish etc then dips his same hand into the packet of salt thus contaminating it. I would not eat food he has handled. Very careless.

My poor niece was off school for a couple of days last week suffering from a stomach bug. She was laying on the lounge watching Huey and was watching him handle food with his big fat fingers and she just threw up.

    March 2009

If he was someone with Rick Stein's professionalism or Gordon Ramsay's reputation then I'll gladly pay $$$$ for his recipes - but he's not. In fact, no where near it. I can't stand watching him. I have to turn off the sound cause I don't wanna have to listen to him rave on about totally irrelevant B#@%&#@T!!! His food is so ordinary that it's almost insulting that he thinks we're stupid enough to want to pay for it. All I have to do is go out and buy a copy of New Idea or Woman's Day to get the equivalent.

Huey it seem so mean that you charge for recipes, I watch you show then want to cook the dish and $24.95 is a bit steep for a recipe and since we are still watching re runs from 2007, think you could share the recipes at least that are on air that week.

doctors, lawyers, vets and so on study, work extremly long hours, write books and you have to pay for their services so why not a chefs? get real, nothing is for free these days and if it is its .... you wont buy any recipe book for zip, thers a big difference between a cook and a chef, a chef has a heart and the love for this wonderfull trade that you people dont give chefs credit for. retired chef. brisbane.

      March 2009

You can't compare Huey with doctors or lawyers. I am not sure but I don't think her is a chef just a cook. You can download recipes from great chefs for free. Just look at the Internet you will find thousands of free recipes. Most other cooking shows don't zoom up on brand names as Huey does indicating he gets well paid to advertise the product. By his own admission a lot of his recipes are taken from other peoples cook books or magazines. I wonder if he pays for them.

We are now in 2010 and I am looking forward to a whole new season of Huey. Seeing all the exotic places he will visit and all he delectable food he will make and all the new guests he will have on his shows. I hope to see Charlotte a bit more often this time as she is a very nice kid, but I suppose she has to work round going to school etc. I am also looking forward to reading other people's comments to this site as I find them to be very interesting. I thought they might of deleted this site at the beginning of the new year to start afresh to get new comments, but in a way I am glad that they have left it the way it is now. Happy New Year to everyone.

I dont think we should have to pay for recipes when there are so many readily available on the net from othe shows and websites. Try Alive and Cooking show on every day and all recipes are FREE. He is great to watch and his recipes are easy. Also TASt.COM so many free recipes. I went to the Hueys website to have a look and was shocked to see I had to pay to join. I am a member of Alive and cooking and I did not have to pay. KJ Adelaide

    February 2009

I agree, I am a great fan of some of the cooking shows. they insire me to cook up something special. The best part is once I have watched them I can go to my computer and download the recipe or even watch the program again, with the exception of Huey's show. Whereby I am expected to pay a joining fee. I don't think so!!! I will just keep surfing the net until I find what I want for free. In saying that I do not think I will be watching Huey's show again. I too am a very disappointed viewer as I used to enjoy Huey and his recipes but I feel it is just an extra money grab. I am sure he gets very well paid to do these shows so why the extra fees?

    February 2009

I agree with those disappointed at having to pay for recipes. Iain Hewitson should harness this audience. Happily cooks will share their recipes to those that compliment them, and if it's "one of Hueys" then he gets the credit. If people are keen enough to search out his recipe on the net, then he's impressed them, when they have to pay, well .....

    • suzie
      February 2009

all Iain Hewitson does is harness his own taste. He used to use a teaspoon to taste but lately Ive noticed he uses a tablespoon.Ive never seen a chef taste soo so much as he does.I been cooking for years and dont taste any where near as much as he does.I does look and sound grose on tv ....

    February 2009

I can't beleive you are TRYING to wrangle further money out of already cash-strapped australians, Huey. To put things in perspective, I pay $30 Per month for my internet access which gives me access to MILLIONS of websites containing recipes of an equivalent standard to yours. Yet, you deem it necessary to charge $24.95 for a lously 6 months of access. Let's be honest, in a 6 month period the average at-home-cook would not experiment with many more than 4-5 recipes. I think I'd rather spend my money at a restaurant instead of feeding you, Huey; by the looks of it you've had enough to eat anyway.

  • KH
    February 2009

I have recently started to watch the program, as I now work from home more frequently. Having some insight into advertising I would point out the Mr H has a great deal of product placement in his program. For this he receives subsidies, or free products. I believe that this could offset the cost to some degree of his Cooking Club. I respect his knowledge and expertise as a chef / cook and that these recipes are in a large part his know-how and talent in the kitchen and therefore he may anticipate payment for access to his site. After all the consumer pays for his cookbooks. Perhaps a reduction in the cost of the "club" and that to be offset by his advertisers.

I didn't have a pen, went to get one and you had put more things in with the corned beef, so I thought, no problems, I'll "google" it. Seemed like a good ol' kiwi recipe. I cannot believe that you charge people to get recipes off your site, which should be provided for free in the first place. All the other chefs on tv don't need to do this. They're probably just as good as you, if not better in some cases. What makes you so different to anyone else?

  • Liz

Sadly I stopped watching the show as if I didn't keep up with scrawling the recipes down I couldn't get them off the website without paying for them.
