Great British Menu is back, and the competition is fiercer than ever as the nation’s top chefs are being challenged to cook for the ultimate street party. Last year, up to one million people took part in The Big Lunch – a nationwide one-day event that encourages people to cook and eat with their neighbours. Inspired by this, our chefs are battling to create spectacular sharing platters, dishes that will get everyone talking, proving that food has the power to bring us all together, for the most magnificent street party ever held.
Each week three chefs battle it out in the kitchen, for a chance to cook at the banquet and a veteran of the competition will taste and score their dishes every day. The pressure is on each week, as only two chefs can make it through to cook for the Great British Menu judges at the end of the week and then one will be going home.

I agree with Andrew. A Great Australian Menu would be fantastic. Especially in digging up some quality producers to small to get into the big markets. But there is going to be a definite downside to an Aussie version if we get a silly production company putting it together, and that is the over inflated ego chefs that we see and hear to much of already - Perry, Evans, Moran, Bill, Manu, et al. *** off I've had enough. Get out there and find some chefs who are cooks first, Puskas and Fassnidge come to mind. Come on Rupert, make it happen.
Have to admit I think the judges are so far up themselves it's not funny. Please explain to me how a fellow chef can give a dish high marks and high praise and dopey Oliver 'bags' it. I live for the day the judges cook for the (Michelin starred) chefs and have their culinary 'delights' tasted and judged; sadly I know this won't happen but wouldn't you just love to see it and hear the comments!
Just watched the Welsh dessert edition and the final results on who gets to ccok for the judges. It was a joke, the judge had no idea and gave enough points to a guy who cooked Rice Pudding as a Summer banquet Dessert....What the....!!!!! Maybe he paid her enough to get through!!
Best food show ever made. I learn from it and 'guest judge' Richard Corrigan is my man.
And who says the poms can't cook!!........ Bravo to my fellow counrtymen and women!! Inspires me to be a better chef!
This is got to be one of the best shows ever shown. Real chiefs cooking great british produce who are so proud of there food sources. I hope we have the great aussie menu i would be so proud to see some the produce from our own heart land cooked by our wonderful chiefs here in australia it a fantastic show GO BIG TOMMY
I am addicted to this show. I love that the judges are so honest with not only themselves, but to the shows chefs and their fellow judges.
Fun show with lots of interesting food, but it seems in Series 5 that the producers have told Matthew and Oliver to deliberately square off against each other. Whatever one likes, the other one hates! Even Prue seems to think so
best food show on tv! OUTSTANDING!!!
So when is coming onto Australian TV?? We actually went to Nigel Haworth's pub/restaraunt in May to sample last years top dish - EXCELLENT.
yeaah!!!!!
Love it!!!!
Never saw a re-run of series 3, the only one from which I missed any!
This is just probably the best show on lifestyle food......just love it.Every minute of it from the recipes to the Chefs and even to the judges it is fantastic.
So when it is all finished what then??
Love this series and all the previous ones. I am trying unsuccessfully to find out what the brand of cookware the chefs are using with the light blue coloured interior finish. Have sent heaps of e-mails but no one knows or even bothers to answer. Any ideas???
This show is the best show on lifestyle food and always has been.
I agree with Cathy. I dont know any chefs from here and I love the competitiveness of the guys and girls cooking. There are a couple who have huge egos but then when you cook as well as they do you deserve to have one. I am currently looking to find some of the recipes so I can joinin the fun.
My husband and I love most of the cooking shows, and this is probably our favourite. Each episode we have a little bet between ourselves as to which chef will win on the night (so far I'm in front). We also like to critique the judges, although most of the time they pretty well agree with our views.
Just love it. In Australia i think I know the names of more UK chef's than my own chefs here at home.
Here in South Africa we get the shows very late. We're only watching season 2 now and we never saw the Christmas edition. I LUVVIT! The judges too! First time in a show I don't have any gripes with anyone. I think Prue is especially well loved here in South Africa. Congratulations with this show. Please tell our DSTV to buy them as they appear. Cheers to u! Magarietha
I just love this program. I am not a capable cook but this is really fun and motivating for a beginner The meals that they present look top class and I love that the food from the various regions is a standout event
Being ex Armed Forces, I would have liked to see this series produce a banquet based on the daily cost allowed per person in the Forces Budget. The recipes being produced are probably costing 30 or 40 times the daily 3 meals a day allowance per person. Although I commend this series and I have been out of the Forces now for 20 years, even now the allowance could not be more than a fiver a day per person. There is the challenge. I dare you to take it on.
Mike.
Why is Glynn Purnell not featured in the Chef section of GBM??? What a fabulous Monkfish dish!
I love this show and I am sooooo glad that Glynn Purnell won last week. Go Glynn
This is my all time favourite food show!!! I could just sit there drooling over their magnificent food creations for hours on end! One day I will attempt to make something from the show, but for now I'll just dream! :)
