n this series Gok uses his love and passion for Chinese food and cooking techniques as a springboard to reinvent the way we cook and eat today. From his unique perspective he offers a personal and modern take on the Chinese food he grew up on – showing us how to cook simple, healthy and delicious recipes that look a million dollars and taste amazing. He also draw lessons from his Chinese heritage to give us a different angle on how to eat; for Gok sitting down and tucking into fantastic food is all about the experience – it should be fuss free and relaxed with everyone chatting, laughing and helping themselves to shared dishes and eating a little at a time. This is food that’s about balance, health, flavour and fun.
Everyone loves eating Chinese food, but most people are too scared to try cooking it, thinking it’s complicated and time consuming. But, having grown up in his parents’ Chinese restaurants, Gok knows that Chinese food is much easier and faster to cook than you might think. By the age of ten he’d learned to cook his own super-quick stir fries and vibrant noodle soups and his chef dad, John, always ensured that food was at the heart of family life – from quick and easy evening meals to family feasts. In each programme Gok will draw on his rich family heritage and the Wan clan’s obsession with food to teach us to cook his personal take on amazing Chinese food at home.
Throughout the series Gok meets great characters and brilliant cooks, unlocking the secrets of delicious Chinese home cooking and using their ideas and techniques to inform his distinctive and fresh approach to cooking. Not professionally trained himself, Gok will give us the confidence to cook amazing food – if he can do it, anyone can.
