Cooking for our Princess Mary, is a one-hour behind-the-scenes documentary produced by and exclusive to The LifeStyle Channel.
We follow our Home chef Peter Evans along with his team from Hugo’s, as they cook a lavish four course dinner for The Australian Cancer Research Foundation and guests of honour, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Held at Boomerang House in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, two hundred guests paid $3,000 a couple for the honour of dining with a Princess.
Sixteen chefs prepared the food for the evening which consisted of 13 types of canapés, three seafood plates, two meat courses and dessert platters followed by cheese and cognac. The caviar came from Iran, the lamb came from Western Australia, the oysters from Tasmania and of course the menu wouldn’t be complete without some Danish Blue cheese.
$60,000 worth of the finest champagne and wines were consumed and the sommelier at the party had to personally open and taste every single bottle of wine before it was served to ensure no cork tainted wines reached the guests.
Witness the drama downstairs in the kitchen, cold room and wine cellar as the chefs and butlers deal with the pressure of getting everything just right. Meanwhile, upstairs the atmosphere is completely different. Guests sip champagne, make polite conversation, jostle to meet the Princess and enjoy the royal treatment from staff.
Find out what happens when preparations for the outdoor party were almost ruined, when it pours with rain just two hours before the royal couple arrives; the oven for cooking the lamb blows up minutes before the main course is served; and feel the nerves and tension as the moment when Princess Mary arrives gets closer and everyone wonders if they’ve got it right.
