Cooked

South African host, Justin Bonello, and his motley crew are loading up the combi once again for a second series of Cooked… the cooking, eating and travelling show. Justin describes himself as a food lover not a chef. All he wants to do is have fun - cooking using local ingredients and innovative recipes and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of his native South Africa. To this end he hires a van, invites thirty of his friends and sets off on the culinary road trip of a lifetime. Apart from delicious food, Cooked also shows us Justin’s way of life - his cooking is as spontaneous as his partying and with a cast of thirty we get to meet all of his friends as they help out in the kitchen.

The journey starts and ends in Cape Town, and passes through the Langebaan Lagoon, the Buttonquail Nature Reserve, Treetops in the Cedarburg Mountains, Namibia and Ludertiz amongst others. Never one for conventional methods, Justin’s transport encompasses buses, boats, and even a hot air balloon! He cooks using whatever wonderfully varied and fresh local ingredients are available and creates dishes that are exotic (Snake Mackerel), vibrant (Roadside Burgers, Stone-Baked Ostrich Fillet), highly experimental (Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows), and we even see him spit and eat his national symbol, the Springbok.

    I love this show – good friends on a roadtrip. Justin has such natural comedic timing and is so much fun to watch.
    The food is authentic holiday fare and inspires that holiday feeling- even on a week night!

    Ek is absoluut MAL oor Cooked!!! Justin laat dit so maklik lyk en sy liefde vir kos en ons land maak 'n mens soooo trots... die Afrikaans wat ook so af en toe inglip maak my sommer warm om die hart.. sekere dinge klink mos net mooier in Afrikaans.. Ek geniet sy loslit manier van kosmaak en ook al die plekke wat hulle besoek.. my gunsteling episode is waar hulle die Namib perde besoek het in Klein Aus Vista naby Luderitz.. pragtig!!! Cooked is 'n absolute PUIK program!!! Hou net so aan!!!

    My Hubby & both love the show!!- Its reflects the true Spirit of Africa and what our holiday making is all about. Most importantly,how Justin makes everything he cooks look so easy and delicious.We're inspired to both explore Africa and get our camping menu jacked up. Keep it up Justin!!-Bronwynne & Clint JHB-SA

    I just LOVE the show. Justin is very natural and is exceptionally talented. He seems like such a nice person and I would have loved to have been on one of his trips. I try out many of his recipes and my favourite is the puff pastry squares he filled with egg et al for a breakfast. Inspired !! What I would like to know is, does Justin have his own restaurant and if so, details please !

    Justin I have enjoyed all the shows and have just recently cooked with my first Dutch Oven and I am hooked. It is a just a little cooler where I live in Scotland but we do still cook outside and cooking with the dutch oven adds that bit extra and all your recipes are great. I just need to get in more practice. Keep it up and keep enjoying all that beautiful food. All the best.

    I loved the show, loved the scenery and the cooking, loved Justin's generosity and hospitality. South Africa is sooo amazing, made me want to go there and loose myself in the beautiful places and eat raw oysters and drink chili coffee in front of the Ocean :)

    I love the show, Justin is an amazing cook, I've tried some of the recipes and they came out delicious, the best was the eggs in the pastry which was baked in the oven. i always make it for breakfast, my family loves it. You a great cook Justin !!!
