Chateau Monty

About the show

39-year-old wine critic and author Monty Waldin is a man in pursuit of a dream. He’s giving up his life in England and using all his savings to take over a small vineyard in the south-west of France to produce his own wine. Much to the mockery of some wine experts, Monty is determined to grow his grapes biodynamically, using no chemicals or machinery, instead relying on planetary rhythms and the influence of the moon. He is strapped for cash and with no business experience, the odds are stacked against him and even his Italian girlfriend is sceptical as to whether Monty can pull it off. He has just over a year to turn four hectares into top selling organic wine. He will renovate a cabin on his vineyard so he can attend to his vines 24/7, his only company will be his donkey and occasionally his high maintenance girlfriend Silvana when she jets in from Italy. Some of his ideas will risk ridicule, but by the end of 18 months of blood, sweat and tears, Monty will discover if his big gamble will make or break him.
