Candelori's Italian Restaurant

Mix mama's recipes with high-quality gourmet Italian favourites and you've got the gist of Candelori's in Smithfield. Whether you're gnawing for gnocchi or anticipating an antipasto board for two, this a la carte Italian restaurant opens the pantry doors wide open with a large menu of pizzas, pastas, risottos, seafood, sizzling hot pots and grilled meats and specialities.

While the freshly made Neapolitan woodfired pizzas take centre stage, there's no need to neglect the entrees, which include marinated white anchovies and sardines or the crumbed stuffed green olives with goat's cheese. For the brave and the hungry, the lobster, scampi or T-bone should do the trick. Watch the blackboard specials for further surprises.

Being half Italian, they make great food that my Nonna used to make. Brings back fond memories of her cooking. Great food, great service, great atmosphere and reasonably priced. I have told my friends about it and they love it too.

We dined there last night (Saturday) and it was packed to the rafters. It is great to find a restaurant that can accommodate off street parking for just about all of its patrons as there is a huge customer car park at the rear of the restaurant. The staff were inviting and professional. If you are after a quiet romantic setting then this may not be the place as it is typical of a great Italian Restaurant; Full of loud European Culture with masses of ambience! Then again the atmosphere is something we all need to experience especially in this current climate; you will embrace the mood as it has a flow-on effect

We arrived at 8pm and it was a shuffle to get to our table of 6 (plus a pram), the staff were very accommodating with our request for extra room due to having a pram.

As we are all of Italian descent the food was first class and the servings are generous in proportions, the only small gripe was the Grilled baby octopus as we found the octopus to be larger than expected and a little over-grilled. The rest of the meals were perfect, the salt & pepper calamari & prawns was cooked wonderfully both the risotto pescatore and the linguine marinara were swimming with array of fresh seafood delicacies marinated in a basil and tomato sauce to die for! Our guests had the linguine con aragosta, gamberi e cozze (long thin pasta, pan tossed with a half lobster, tiger prawns, mussels, virgin olive oil, diced tomatoes, garlic, chilli & white wine) and from their comments this dish was Al-Dente with again a generous array of seafood creatures cooked to perfection!

To finish of the meal my wife and I shared the Tiramisu (one of the most popular Italian cakes) for desert as we were quite full and I’m not big on Tiramisu that is until last night when I had to fight my wife off with a spoon for the last bite, once again it was absolutely to die for! We will most definitely be returning again and again as you cannot go pass not dining at this outstanding restaurant. Don’t forget to book well in advance… We have now booked our daughters (Natasha) christening function later this year! A big thank you to all of the staff at Candelori's!!!
