Almond Bar is a Middle Eastern restaurant/bar run by two sisters, Carol and Sharon Salloum. They decided that they wanted to bring the food they grew up with and the hospitality their culture has always known to Darlinghurst. This classy but very cosy and comfortable restaurant offers authentic homemade mezza, a great atmosphere, tasty cocktails, a modest wine list with authentic and excellent food. The exotic ambience hits you as soon as you walk through the door out of the dark darlinghurst street, it feels like you have been transported to a different world in seconds. The owners are friendly knowledgable and passionate about thier little hidden jewel and the food is sensational - little pieces of magic each and every bite. Portions are generous and exude great value. It's a perfect destination for a romantic retreat or a girly gossip when huddled together around the wooden benches and cushions.

Great service and the food is exceptional. I live in the area and have eaten out often, though I'm not a regular connoisseur of Syrian food I find that the choice of small meals, bit like tapas and dips is fantastic. They create flavorsome dishes without going overboard. Best enjoyed with a partner or more, as this helps when choosing and tasting many of the dishes available.

THey offer more hospitality than any other restaurant. THe food is just different enough from other restaurants from the region to make it stand out, and the style also is original yet comfortable.

Exquisite spicing, old favourites and new tastes, fantastic small bites or large hearty meals. The service is always delightful - intimate yet reserved, with excellently glamorous water pouring. There is a great selection of meals for vegetarians - because of all the nuts and grains and legumes that are a given in Middle Eastern cooking, the food is not only delicious to eat but full of protein, calcium and iron. The Almond Bar is inexpensive yet one feels as if one is eating upmarket. We live in Melbourne and every time we visit Sydney we walk around the Darlinghurst area and then end up at the Almond Bar, it is always one of the highlights.
