Gosc w dom, Bog w dom translates as “A guest in the house, God in the house”, a cornerstone of traditional Polish hospitality. The entrance of a guest in a Polish house is a cause for celebration and for all the riches of the larder and cellar to be shared. This tradition is transported to Melbourne by After the Tears. The food is traditional and complemented by vodkas [and cocktails and wines], designed to complement the tastes of each dish. An accompaniment of eating and drinking vodka is music—haunting gypsy melodies, folk songs of Poland and Russia, and combinations of drinking songs, many of them the inspiration for composers ranging from Chopin to Rachmaninov and Gorecki. Each Sunday night, the Stiletto Sisters perform Eastern European music live, playing requests as they wander from table to table.
