BBQ Beans


A SIDE DISH FOR BBQS OR ADD LEFT OVER ROAST MEAT/CHICKEN FOR A MAIN MEAL.

Serves 4 to 6

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion chopped
  • Half a cup of bacon or ham chopped (leave this out if cooking for vegetarians)
  • 2 x 440g tins of 3 bean mix - rinse well.
  • 1 x440g tin of tomato soup (or for a richer flavour use 100g tomato paste)
  • Brown sugar
  • garlic - minced 1 tablespoon
  • ginger - minced 1 desertspoon
  • Chilli - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard - 1 teaspoon
  • curry powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Worstershire sauce - .5 cup

Method

  1. ON A MEDIUM HEAT FRY ONION, GARLIC, GINGER, CHILLI AND BACON IN A LARGE FRYPAN WITH A LITTLE OIL (IF NECESSARY.)
  2. WHEN ONION AND BACON ARE COOKED, ADD BROWN SUGAR AND STIR FOR ONE - TWO MINTES WHILE THE INGREDIENTS CARAMELISE.
  3. ADD BEANS, TOMATO SOUP (OR TOMATO PASTE OR BOTH!!). STIR WELL.
  4. ADD MUSTARD, CURRY POWDER AND WORSTERSHIRE SAUCE AND STIR WELL.
  5. TURN DOWN TO LOW AND LEAVE TO SIMMER FOR AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR BUT THE LONGER IT SIMMERS THE BETTER IT TASTES.
  6. SERVE ON TOP OF OR ON THE SIDE OF ANY BBQ MEAT.

ALL SPICE INCREDIENTS CAN BE INCREASED OR DEGREASED DEPENDING ON INDIVIDUAL TASTE. EG. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE CHILLI - LEAVE IT OUT - IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY MUSTARD - LEAVE IT OUT OR SUBSTITUTE SOMETHING ELSE - LIKE SWEEK PAPRIKA.
