Beef and Mushroom Casserole

I have a large family and the children cooked a meal when I needed help so I had to invent a very simple recipe.


  • 1kg good casserole beef (chuck, oyster blade, blade) cut into 1.5cm cubes

  • 2 x 400g tins mushroom in butter sauce

  • 1 large or 2 small sliced onions

  • salt to taste


  • 1.

    Place all ingredients in casserole dish and cook in a slow oven (150C) for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is tender.

  • 2.

    Serve with whole baby potatoes and peas or beans.


If you have any mushrooms in the fridge, slice and add them to the casserole for extra taste.

Cooking time depends on who is doing the preparation. If the children were too young to use a sharp knife, I helped with the meat and onion slicing.
