Preheat oven to 160ºC. Grease and line the base and sides of square cake pan.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, on low speed.
Mix through flour, cocoa and optional ingredient. (i.e. nuts or choc chips)
Bake at 160ºC for 25-35 minutes or until skewer comes out with a few moist
crumbs attached (not sticky batter). Allow to cool, and then turn out on wire rack and peel off lining paper. Cut into squares and dust with extra cocoa or icing sugar prior to serving.
