Beef Strogonoff

This recipe was passed on to me from a girl who’s parents were migrants from Yugoslavia, and is a “Stogonoff” without the addition of cream.

Ingredients

  • You will need:-
  • 500 grams of round or topside beef.
  • 1 x 400gram tin of mushrooms in butter sauce(any cheap brand)
  • 1 capsicum diced.
  • 4 tablespoons of tomato sauce.
  • 1 level teaspoon of curry powder.
  • 2 tablespoons of plain flour.
  • 2 teaspoons(approx’) of olive oil.
  • 1 & 1/2 cups water.
  • “optional”
  • 1 cup of chopped fresh mushrooms.
  • 2 tablespoons of red wine.

Method

  2. Cut meat into 15mm(1/2”approx’) cubes, and coat with plain flour.
  3. Put oil in saucepan, heat and add meat, cook until meat is brown.
  4. Remove from saucepan and put meat into a casserole dish.
  5. Put diced capsicum in saucepan and heat, add tinned mushrooms, tomato sauce, curry powder and water(can add optional ingredients now), and bring to the boil.
  6. Pour saucepan contents into the casserole dish with the meat, stir and place in preheated oven at 250C for 30 minutes, stir and turn oven too 180C cook a further 30 minutes.
  7. Serve on a bed of rice or with pasta.
