Easy and scrumptious. A quick but continental style slice you can throw together when friends drop in. Always nice with coffee and a good dollup of double cream. A good friend gave me a recipe very similar to this but I modified it to suit. You can also make it with a gluten free plain flour which is just as successful if you have a gluten free diet.
Combine diced apple and sugar in bow and allow to sit a few minutes.
Combine all dry ingredients including walnuts and sultanas in a bowl.
Stir melted margarine into the apple/sugar mixture.
Stir egg into apple/sugar mixture.
Add all dry ingredients to apple mixture and mix well.
Pour mixture into greased spring form tin and spread evenly.
Cook for 25 minutes on 180 degrees celcius.
Leave to cool 10 minutes before cooling on rack.
Before serving dust with icing sugar and serving with a dollup of double cream.
You can make this in a 25cm square tin if you want a traditional square piece. Cooking time will be the same. This slice is best eaten on the day.
