Lorraine's Stew

This is a rich tasting stew/casserol that is always a winner when entertaining and so easy to make. I came across it at a friends (Lorraine) house when she was preparing a meal for us all and fell in love with it for the great taste and simplicity...hence the name.


  • 500grams diced stewing steak

  • 2 carrots

  • 1 small onion

  • 6 tblespoons worcestershire sauce

  • 2 heaped desertspoons of jam (my fav is raspberry)

  • salt & pepper to season

  • 1 packet of (Maggi) soup mix (my fav is mushroom or french onion)

  • cauliflower (optional)

  • peas (optional)

  • potatoe cubes (optional)

  • (or any vegetables you wish)

    Just throw it all into a crock pot on slow cook for 8 hours or slow cook in the oven at 300deg F for 3 hours. Thicken as needed and serve.


I add the potatoe cubes if we are pushed for time and are having it on toast when we get home from work. Otherwise have the vegs on the side. Also if you want to stretch the meal further, you can add more veg's to the stew to make it go further, at very little extra cost.
