Steak and Pasta Pie

You don't need any special skills to make Brian Turner's steak and pasta pie. Easy and quick, with a cheeky short cut, it's a recipe you will make again and again, and a cut-out-and-keep classic for students too.

Serves 3 to 4

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 450g mince beef
  • 2 x 400g can of macaroni cheese
  • Small bunch fresh parsley or basil, chopped
  • 120g sun blushed tomatoes
  • 100g parmesan, grated

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 4/180 c/350f/ and grease a large ovenproof dish.
  2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the onion, garlic and mince for 5-10 minutes, until mince is browned and the onion is softened, season. This is best done in two batches so that the mince does not stew, put half the mince into the prepared dish.
  3. Place the macaroni cheese in a large bowl and add the other half of the mince, parsley and chopped tomatoes. Fold together and then spoon over the meat. Sprinkle with the grated cheese and bake for 30-40 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Serve hot or cold allowing to cool before cutting.
