Baked Pears in Maple Syrup for Babies

These baked pears are fantastic served alone or with cream or ice-cream. Depending on your baby's age, you can puree, mash or chop them, the divide into portions and freeze. Easy.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe, firm pears, peeled
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 2 tbsp/30ml maple syrup

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190c/375f.
  2. Remove the pear stalks and cut the pears in half. With a teaspoon, scoop out the cores.
  3. Put the orange juice and maple syrup into a non-reactive, oven-proof pan and bring to the boil. Remove from the heat. Put the pears into the pan with the orange juice and maple syrup mixture and coat all over to stop going brown.
  4. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes coating the pears now and again with the juice and syrup mixture. When soft, lift the pears out into a plate.
  5. Reduce the sauce over a high heat until sticky. Pour over the pears and leave to cool.
  6. Depending on your baby's age, puree in a food processor, mash or chop. Divide into portions and serve or freeze.
