Gourmet Chicken Burger


This takes a little longer than slapping a frozen burger under the grill but, boy, is it worth it. You'll be blown away by how tasty these burger are!

Ingredients

For the burger

  • 1 lb minced chicken
  • 1 small knob of root ginger, chopped
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 bunch of chopped spring onions
  • Pinch of 5 spice powder
  • 1 egg to bind
  • Flour for dusting

Soya Bean Vinaigrette

  • Handful of soya beans
  • 1 bag of alfalfa shoots
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sherry vinegar
  • 1 tbsp runny honey
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 spring onions finely shredded
  • 1 plum tomato diced

Serve with

  • 2 slices of griddled bread
  • Mango chutney

Method

  1. Sweat off the onions, garlic and ginger. In a bowl mix together the chicken mince, spring onions, five spice, the sweated onions, garlic and ginger.
  2. Bind the mixture with an egg and shape into patties. Lightly dust the patties with flour and fry off in a little vegetable oil until golden. Mix all the ingredients for the vinaigrette and set aside. Cut the white bread into rounds and griddle on each side. Build up your burger to your tastes adding a dollop of mango chutney.
